How long to recoup after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Am doing this during my spring break from nursing school. I HAVE to be back 1 wk post op. No heavy lifting or anything. How should I expect to feel? I've had 4 csection a and recovered really good from them. What about sex? When can we resume post op?

Every one is different. I could have gone back to work in one week but not sure everyone could.

I took 2 weeks off work, but probably could have gone back at a week. My job is pretty active though so I just wanted to play it safe. Sounds like you should be fine. As far as sex, I was so not in the mood for the first couple weeks. I think maybe it was week 3. The nurses said I could have sex as soon as I was ready.

I'm close to 2 weeks post op now, I think I could handle work if I had to but it would be hard. I get tired easy and my abdomen is still pretty tender. I can't twist or bend over and touch the ground.

I've had 2c-sections, a vaginal delivery, my gallbladder removed and a tubal ligation... My sleeve was the worst surgery I've ever had as far as pain and recuperation. I just knew it would be a breeze and it wasn't. It's different for everyone.

I so agree. I had 3 c-sections and a radical hysterectomy and the sleeve surgery was by far rougher. I had convinced myself it would be a breeze but I was so wrong. That being said, I am 2 months post-op, 42 pounds lost and if needed I would do it again in a heartbeat. No regrets at all, just wasn't prepared for the recovery. I took 3 weeks off work and was ready at that point to go back, just a little tired. Good luck.

Oh, I may have come across like I regretted it, but I'm with you 100%. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!!

I worked from home starting 4 days after surgery and that was a huge mistake. I wasn't getting up from the desk often enough and the healing of the muscle and flesh at the larger incision ended up healing too tight. I ended up having to re-tear the healed area so it wasn't so tight. (Hard to explain) Went back to the office after 3.5 weeks op but have a timer set on my computer so I get up ever 15 minutes and walk. Pain was miserable but I could have prevented by being more conscious at home.

Getting up a not usually an issue for me in school. So I am really really hoping that all heals well.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
