Great advice! I am going to go and get Gas-X and a body pillow so that I have it ready for post-op!

Thanks! 's blog helped me when I was just starting out, and it inspired me to start my own. I am glad it is helping you.

I just updated it with my 4-week recap and the experiences of being on a plane with the band. I'm currently at 35,000 feet feeling no discomfort!

Good luck to you! Keep us informed (maybe start your own blog!)

I'll have to read how you're doing. I travel quite a bit and wonder how that would impact my banding?

I think the best piece of advice is to do some reading on the "post surgery" message boards if you haven't already. I wished I had because it might have saved me some frustration and helped me to adjust my expectations post surgery. You will not lose like sleevers or RNYers. It will be slow and you will stall in your weight loss around week 3 till your first fill at 6 weeks. DON'T GET DISCOURAGED! I did and I made things harder on myself. This is a different strategy that will work but it is different. Take care of you and trust your nut and surgeon.

I'm about 3 months post op - I only told my parents, my fiancé and one close coworker that I eat lunch with everyday. My mom told my grandma and my sister. No clue if my grandma told the rest of the family (for prayer of course during my surgery). My mom told me about my sister in law was planning bypass, so I ended up telling her. My fiancé told his brother. So it's slowly expanded. I still haven't said anything on FB. I hope to keep it pretty quiet.

My sister was hurt to find out from my mom, but knowing her, she would have tried to talk me out of it. I know it's bad to pick her feelings being hurt over mine but I needed the surgery and not to try another quick fix fad diet.

@@sleepingarby thank you for this advice! i have been reading around and i am starting to see that there are plateaus throughout the journey. part of the reason that i wanted the band was because the weight comes off slower, and seems healthier for me (mentally). i will continue to read post-op forums.

@@kimk1999 you and i are in the same boat. i was feeling guilty for not telling the world, but i need to realize that i don't belong to the world. i belong to myself, and my maker. it is up to me to decide on who i will tell, so i told the ones that "need" to know. everyone at work sees that i'm on a liquid diet and i stated that it is for health reasons because obviously i'm overweight.

I agree. Because right now i am at week 3 and at a stall. It is frustrating and not scheduled for a fill until 4/22. But like everyone has said don't get discouraged it gets better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
