My mom passed away and now it is hard to stay on track.

Recommended Posts

Hello Vets, I thought I would ask the experinced sleevers this question and maybe others can help too. My family and i spent the week in ICU my mom had an infection in her lungs and passed away. While we were there I did take shakes/water with me to have before and after but I got off track with my eatting on schedule. Now that things have settled down and I am home I am having a hard time getting all my Protein in. Any suggestions would be helpful. I am not sure if this is normal or should I be worried?

Thanks

Losing a parent is very difficult, especially your mom. I am so sorry for your loss. As far as Protein, I drink Premier Protein ready made shakes. They have 30 grams of protein. I believe you can buy them at costco, Walmart, and Safeway.

Again, I am sorry for your loss. Take care.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I think there is no "normal" under these circumstances - your life has been turned upside down a bit, and grief is an unpredictable process. Be as kind and gentle with yourself as you can in the weeks and months ahead.

It looks like you're fairly new post-op on a revision surgery, is that right? And it sounds like you're having difficulty making your Protein goals, as opposed to being off-track and eating things you shouldn't. If that's right, my advice would be to focus first on hydration, as it's very important not to let yourself get dehydrated. Then, focus on getting in as much Protein as you can. I know when I lost my mom, some days I was depressed and didn't want to eat at all, other times I wanted to turn to food for comfort. I think as long as you're focusing on good quality protein when you do eat, that's your best choice. If you don't feel like eating, sip on Protein shakes. If it helps, think of it as your medicine - you're giving your body what it needs to heal. Get some exercise in if you can, it really helps as a coping mechanism, just to get outside, and get some fresh air, and move a bit.

Hang in there hon...

Thank you ladies for your response to my call for help. It is nice there are people I can ask for help on these forums regarding eatting right after having a Sleeve Revision and while trying to be smart and not fall into the wrong way of looking at food now.

hhhHappy- i did put a call in to Nut/DR office but they havent called back, yet.

Ktklass- I will go out and buy some Premier shakes from costco this weekend, they have 30gr of Protein and that will help me get the Protein in that I need.

EscapePod, thank you for your words of kindness and wisdom. Your right grief isnt normal there are days when it hits you and days when your just numb. I do appreciate your honesty. I lost my father many years ago and turned to "comfort food". This time I wanted to be smart. It is true that I havent been getting my Water in and that is something I try really hard to do. When i realized that I also figured I wasnt so hungry either just 3 meals a day instead of my 6 small meals.

hugs to all of you again.

I can't even imagine what you are going through and I am very sorry for your loss. I tend to lose my way when life gets chaotic emotionally, physically and mentally. I'm sure everyone will say to bring it back to sticks and mortar. Go back to shakes and logging your foods and all that jazz and I agree. Its the foundation of your health. My suggestion is to sprinkle your life with radical self love. Nurturing, relaxing, rewarding experiences that make you feel good. Bubble baths, good books, kittens, wine, candles that smell like gardenias... whatever feeds your sense of personal well being. Its the foundation of your healing.

BellaHugz, so sorry I did not see this sooner. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mum two years ago. It can take a long time to feel anything near normal again. You have received so much wonderful advice already, and the best thing is that you reached out to us for support. My heart is with you.

I have another suggestion for protein: have you tried Quest bars? I get mine from GNC. They have lots of Protein plus lots of Fiber, and they are yummy (except the lemon ones, yecch).

Have a great cuddle with your fur-babies.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
