phuber40 0 Posted April 4, 2007 Hi Everyone, My name is Paulette, I am 48 yrs. old and am scheduled to have surgery on May 7th. Needless to say I am very nervous. I have been going through all my testing since January of this year. Everything is done up to this point. I met with my surgeon last Wednesday and was very excited when he gave me a "date". The only catch is that he wants me to follow the South Beach Diet and keep a journal and bring it in and get weighed at least two times before my sugery to see if I can follow a diet. He said that if I haven't followed it as well as he thinks or if I should gain weight, he will cancel the surgery even if it is the day of. I totally have no problem what he is asking me to do. He explained to me that he wants me to get used to following a diet plan so after the banding I will not fail. However, how do you get over the feeling of wanting to eat everything in sight because you feel like you will never have those foods again? Sorry this is so long for a 1st post but I have been coming to this site for a month or so now and was nervous to post anything. You have all answered many questions that I have had and I hope I continue to get support from all of you before my surgery. Thanks!
Iluvharleys 15 Posted April 4, 2007 Congrats on the date! Everyone thinks that they will never be able to eat again. I can eat most everything I ate before banding, some things I don't just because of the added calories. Don't worry, you'll still be able to eat! It's also normal to be nervous! Good Luck!! ReneBean 3 Posted April 4, 2007 Hey Phuber It is the rare individual who can't still eat anything she wants - at least until after the first fill. Trust me - you WILL be able to eat your favorites again. Honest. Stay strong, now... you can eat pizza later - maybe the night before your first fill! :]

TerriDoodle 6 Posted April 5, 2007 I was just banded yesterday and although my doc didn't have a strict pre-op diet, they did strongly encourage eating low-carb, low-fat. Well, i did fairly well but I did go through the "last meal syndrome" from time to time as well. I had about 30 days pre-op and about 4 of those were spent eating just about everything in sight. 10 of them were eating very strict low-carb and the rest were healthy foods with carbs <100 or so. Just stick around here and you'll be in good hands.
phuber40 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Thanks TerriDoodle for the encouraging words. And Congratulations on getting banded. How wonderful! How do you feel? Are you in alot of pain? This site has been a terrific place to get information. I just hope when my time comes, the Dr. will be happy with my progress so far. Take care and good luck in your road to success! GREATFUL 24 Posted April 5, 2007 Hello Paulette, welcome. I understand what you are going through. I am to be banded on May 2nd. We will be fellow May Bansters. Check out that thread, we can all go through this together. I understand about the last meal thing. I am dealing with that myself. The encouragement I have received here has been the best. Everyone saying to CHILL, you will eat again, you can have your fav. foods again. Just you will be the one in control, not your hunger. Good luck and look forward to talking to you more. phuber40 0 Posted April 5, 2007 Hi LauraP, Nice to meet you, we will have to follow each others progress after we are banded. I am so excited. Last night I was looking at everyones before and after photos and I swear I was up until 12:30a.m. Thank goodness I had off today. It was so awesome to see how different everyone looks even after just a few pounds. I think it's because they feel that they are finally in control of food not the other way around. I can't wait to be up on that board someday too. Paulette
