Anyone NOT need skin removal?

Recommended Posts

Hi. Just looking for some hope.... Did anyone NOT need excess skin removed? And if you did not, how much weight did you lose? Did exercise help?

Hey Fuff,

SO I am just out of surgery, so I can't speak for myself, but I am hopeful. I'm the 7th person in my family to have this done, but out of those 6 other people, my younger cousin and I are the only young ones who did the surgery.

First off my cousin was 22 when she had the surgery and she doesn't need any skin removal surgery. Her weight was 315 when she went in for surgery and she has lost 140 pounds in 15 months. However, she exercises like a demon. I mean I have watched her literally bicycle across state lines, I'm not kidding here. Age and exercise make all the difference in this recovery period. A lot of older relatives in my family have had the surgery, but they were in their 50’s and even though they had lose skin, it wasn’t a pressing matter. If you’re under 30, there is still a lot of elasticity in your skin and you have a better chance of not needing surgery. However, age alone is not enough to combat the sagginess of skin. You need to be exercising constantly to ensure that the most amount of excess weight will be eliminated.

I do not think that I will have to have skin removal. I believe it depends on how much weight you needed to lose and inches, etc.

But I also believe that exercise will help with any sagging skin, firming it up

I am only planning to lose 70 pounds, so I imagine that makes a difference, but at this point, I don't think I'll need any skin removed. And btw, sweetxpetunia, I am the ripe 'ole age of 40 and am still pretty elastic, thank you very much! LOL! :)

My sister had gastric bypass and lost over 170 pounds. She is 43 and have excess skin only on her arms. But that is genetic. We are all curse with our mom fat arms even at normal weight. Anyways she still has 50 or more pound to lose. Time will tell how the rest will hold up but I think it will be great. So age and starting weight not always a great indicator if you will have a lot of excess skin.

Hi. I am 42 years old and 5'5" tall. I started at 250lbs and have lost 76 lbs with 34 to go. (Yay me). Sleeved 10/21/13. While I have some loose fat, I think I can tighten most of it up with exercise and time. Loose fat can be lost/shrunk, loose skin cannot. I don't think I will have any loose skin after losing 110 lbs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
