This is a blatant steal/repost from the General Forums, but PBS aired a documentary entitled "All of Me" that follows a group of women who formed a social group in Austin. From the PBS site:

The “Girls” have been friends — and morbidly obese — for years. They met via the Austin chapter of the National Association to Advance Fat. Now they’re going through the life-changing process of weight-loss surgery. The experience presents a host of issues and consequences — some they knew they were in for, some they feared, and some they never could have imagined.

The entire show is available for free at http://video.pbs.org/video/2365190806/. I watched it earlier today and thought it was really well-produced and interesting. It gave me an idea of what challenges I might expect as I go through my WLS journey.

Thought it might be interesting to you folks as well.

Aloha,

Josh

I got these instructions from someone who posted how to view videos without regional restrictions. Hopefully they'll work for you too.

  1. Download the Google Chrome browser (if you're not already using it).
  2. Go to www.hola.org.
  3. Click on the big blue button in the upper left that says "Start Using Hola...".
  4. Click the link I included above to get back to the website with the video.
  5. In the upper right corner of Chrome, you'll see a flame icon. Click on it and choose the country from which you want to view the video (in this case, US).
  6. That should reload the page without the regional restrictions.
  7. View at your pleasure!

I used Hola for viewing a video that was restricted to the UK (while I'm in the US) and it seemed to work fine for me. Hopefully it'll work well for you too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
