United health care CHOICE PLUS

Recommended Posts

So I have my initial appointment and blood work on the 17th. The office is sending me a form to fill out for my insurance and I'll give it right back to them. I've been trying to research on if they cover WLS. I meet UHCCP requirements (over 21, BMI over 40(I'm 41.6)) Does anyone else have this insurance? I know some UHC plans make you do a 6mo diet, but I've heard choice plus plan doesn't make you do that. Any advice?

I have UHC choice plus, and I had no diet requirement. I was submitted last Wednesday and received my approval yesterday! It took 7 days to get my approval.

I have UHC Choice Plus and I am not require to do a 6 month diet. My requirements are be over 18, bariatric center of excellence, bmi over 35 with comorbidities, or bmi over 40. They also do not require a psych evaluation, but the surgeon's office requires one. Your plan requirements are decided by your employer. The best thing to do is get your insurance company to put your requirements in writing.

I have UHC Choice Plus and had to do the 6mos of dieting, 5 yrs of medical history, Psyc eval. That being said, I jumped through their hoops, and the paperwork was submitted on May 1st. Approval Letter came on May 12th. Finally! Time to schedule the surgery.

I have UHC Choice Plus as well. I was told I had to do 6mo dieting as well. I'm on my last month and am getting excited.

I have UHC Choice Plus and got denied. My surgeon is going to do a peer-to-peer review now. They said my co-morbidities are well-controlled by medication so the surgery isn't necessary.

I have UHC Choice plus also. I have to see a psychologist and have a 5 year history of being obese. I would be nice if they all had the same requirements.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
