Christy929 18 Posted March 27, 2014 Had my band put in yesterday. They only let me have ice chips - they left it empty & Ill have my first fill in 6 weeks. Did anyone else find it was painful when they drank for the first time?
Bandista 7,466 Posted March 27, 2014 Hi Christy, congratulations on your band! If you can't get Water down you need to let your surgeon know ASAP but for many if us that initial tightness is from inflammation that will go down soon. Hope that's helpful! I definitely enjoyed my Popsicles those first few days, as well as warm tea. 3 terrydumont46, ErinMarie and chasingadream reacted to this
Christy929 18 Posted March 27, 2014 It goes down, it just hurts. I didn't want to do. Straw cause it's against the rules. Ill just stick to Popsicles! Good call.
JustWatchMe 7,117 Posted March 27, 2014 Maybe from the breathing tube? My throat was slightly sore the first day from that. I quickly learned plain Water was easier than Crystal Light Lemon. Ouch!
karina33 23 Posted March 27, 2014 they had me drink 4 oz of Water every hour it wasnt to bad but a lil discomfort at first....and they gave me cranberry juice with a straw i jus opted not to drink with it!
TLL 105 Posted March 27, 2014 I had a lot of problems drinking for the first week. I would take a sip, get a horrible tight chest feeling, then a glug glug and it would go down. Once I finally got in to see my surgeon, he accessed my port and found 1cc in the band they hadn't intentionally left there. They fill the band and remove it (although some intentionally leave some in) to check for leaks before they seal you back up. That 1cc was enough to make me too tight. It couldn't hurt to call your surgeon or liaison and let them know you're having probs. Good luck and congrats!
2muchfun 8,927 Posted March 27, 2014 You were intubated with a breathing tube. Your throat is just irritated from the tube. 1 ABandCalledWanda reacted to this
AllisonKara 46 Posted March 27, 2014 It does. I guess this pain lasts for about five days. And, fades away slowly in this duration. If it pains too much, then you would not be allowed for pureed food intake until second week.
Christy929 18 Posted March 27, 2014 I'm on liquids for another 10 days then move to puréed foods. My doc called to check on me this morning & said it's normal, especially where the gas pains are in my chest. I'm just taking small sips.
stac242002 0 Posted March 28, 2014 I have the same issues. I am 8 days post op and I have been in so much pain that I am starting to regret this choice. Today is the first day my shoulder hasn't been hurting. But I still have pain in my upper stomach. Anyone else feel the same way or having any words of wisdom? Do you mean in the stomach area as in near your sternum or do you mean your actual stomach? Describe the pain?
stac242002 0 Posted March 28, 2014 (edited) Thanks Erin. I will keep you in mind. 2muchfun- it's hard to describe but I can't bend. Have a hard time sleeping. I have to sleep sitting up. I have been to the ER twice and they can't find anything wrong. Edited March 28, 2014 by stac242002
