Hey, everyone. I'm Will. I've read some of your posts (as a lurker) but finally signed up. I go in tomorrow morning for the band, after careful consideration. I'm pretty excited about it and looking forward to moving through these first few weeks. I'm sure I will pick your brains more than once in the coming days/weeks/months.

Welcome to the family! And congrats on taking the leap!

Take the next days to heal. Listen to your doctor and ask him lots of questions. Be sure to walk around to help with the gas pains. Drink your fluids. And listen to your body.

We will be here to dish out encouragement, and give you those little pushes you need to move along on this fabulous journey.

Good luck! Keep us posted :)

Thanks to everyone. I am on my fourth day and feel great, all things considered. I handle pain very well, so I have only taken the pain meds at night to help me sleep. I actually drove myself around some today. However, these shakes are killing me! I just had some of the Fluid (and a few smashed beans) from some chili, to hopefully get some extra Fiber, as well as let me remember what hot food (albeit liquid) feels like. My biggest challenge is hitting 1,000 calories a day, which I have not even come close. I may hit it today, but I think I'm aiming for closing to 800. Did anyone "cheat" on that first week? I can go to soft solids (flaky fish, mashed potatoes, etc) as of Wednesday. So, I'm not talking about a major cheat. I mean something like what I just described with the chili. I chewed it so much, it was essentially liquid when I swallowed. Still have not used the bathroom, so I'd like to force that issue a bit, as well. Lastly, they say guys lose weight faster, and I understand I can't (and should not) continue on this path, but I have lost 18 lbs since I started the liquid diet last week, before surgery. Thanks to everyone, and I'm curious to hear what anybody thinks of my "Chili relapse."

Don't make a habit of the chili relapse this close to your surgery date. Doctor wants you stomach to remain quiet till the sutures holding the band in place heal. You're not alone with the cheating though. Many have cheated and got a way with it. Just don't go eating a turkey leg or something like that. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
