Finally found a drink I can handle...

Recommended Posts

Everything I have tried up to this point just hasn't set well with me mostly due to taste. I love Water, but it hurt so bad I couldn't handle it. The other day my husband had to run into Panera so I had him grab me a glass of Water with lemon. It didn't seem to hurt as bad as plain water. I have noticed if I drink ice cold water with lemon it doesn't hurt at all. I was at Kroger and saw their Diet Decaf iced tea sweetened with splenda I think. Anyways, I bought it and put it on ice, waited until it got cold and was able to drink it with no problems. Hope this helps some of you that are struggling with liquids. Have a great day!!

If you look in the powdered drink or tea section, Lipton has the boxes with 10 powder sticks of tea..aspartame free..one flavor is wild berry honey and its great. The other flavors have green tea which are just ok.

Thanks! I will have to check it out. I have never been one for anything other than ice tea, coke or Water so flavored drinks are hard for me.

Is aspartame a bad thing?

I have read a few things that said it caused cravings so I went and checked my list of "approved" items and it is not on there.

I think I'll stay away from it.

Amazon has a good selection of Decaf teas, both bags and k-cups. That would allow you to add Splenda to sweeten. Tea (and coffee) are great drinks and healthy as well!

Splenda is sucralose. Equal and Nutrasweet are aspartame.

I love Celestial Seasoning Bengal Spice tea. I brew it and chill it. It take like milk less Chai. I love it. Its caffeine free. I dont think it needs anything sugar or sugar substitute wise. Love this stuff hot or cold.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
