Tampons?

You can wear your knickers - don't worry. Just your bra will have to be removed.

If you tell them, they'll be cool about it.

I couldn't wear any underwear either, If you can't use a tampon I would suggest talking to your doctor and asking him? I thought mine was going to come then too, but then it came the week before? So I was happy about that!!! lol Good Luck!!!

I use a Diva Cup, which I only need to empty twice or two times a day, despite a heavy flow. If I'm allowed to keep it in during surgery, it seems like the least messy option. My only concern will be emptying and reinserting it post-surgery if my mobility is limited. So, here's just hoping I won't be on my period at the time..

I use one too and had it in during my surgery. I don't remember having issues changing it out. But I also only had a single incision so I didn't have any major pain after the surgery.

Just tell them. They have a special type of undergarment you can wear. No big deal for them, really.

Yes, you need to tell the nurse when you check in. In most instances they will give you special underwear and pads to wear. They typically won't allow tampons or cups and you won't want to be messing with them after surgery anyway . . . it's very common in surgery and they will have standard practices to follow and stuff they want you to use. nbd.

I wouldn't worry to much. I would put in a tampon and wear a pad just because they are going to give you Heparin to avoid blood clots. Of course tell them also, I started my period during the surgery. It was early and unexpected but it did force me to get out of bed and walk more to get to the bathroom to change myself, but walking afterwards is really good. The Heparin really made me have less cramps but it did make my period last two days longer.

I had my period during surgery. If memory serves I wore this disposable underwear with a pad. It was fine. You're dealing with medical professionals. Don't stress this.

DO NOT WEAR A TAMPON. Unless you know without a doubt you'll remember to tell the nurses you have one in. My docs reasoning was because If you don't tell anyone, you're far too drugged up after to remember you have one in. Classic time to possibly get tss, or just forget about it. You aren't the first person to have their period while having this surgery, and you won't be the last.

I grilled my doc about this before surgery, because I have bad luck and figured I'd get my period right before. Thank god u didn't, and haven't had one since Feb 5.

From what I heard they will give you a pad to wear so no worries.

I was also on my period during surgery day. When they gave me a bag and said to put all my clothes in it, I said, "ok cool, can you grab me a pad, by the way? And maybe a bed-pad chux thing in case it slips? Thanks."

And that was that. I have thick thighs, it was easy for the pad to stay in place, and the nurse must have noted it too, because the floor nurse asked if I needed another. :)

They were totally smooth and easy about it. It's no big. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
