Need to find out if anyone else is experiencing this. I am 3 weeks post op today. I will be drinking (sipping) my Protein Shake mixed with Lactaid milk and then I will take another sip and I get these awful cramps in my pouch that lasts for about a minute or two. Happens when I drink my watered down gatorade too. I ate some runny oatmeal just a little bit ago and then it happened again after eating a little bit. I called my surgeon yesterday and have gave me a prescription for something to coat my tummy but it e doesn't help much. Could it just be a sign my pouch is full??? Anyone else experience something like this? I go for my 3 week post op appointment tomorrow morning, so I will ask but just wanted to know if anyone else had input. Thanks

My tummy has been doing that too. I am just a week out today. The best I can figure its still gas but it makes drinking anything a huge ordeal for me. I'm getting so thirsty.

I know it isn't much help but I just wanted you to know that you aren't the only one.

Thanks Mag, It is so frustrating. I worry that I will get dehydrated and I definitely don't want that to happen. I've been taking gas x as well and it helps the pain a little but not much. Hope my doctor can shed some light on it tomorrow.

You know, I don't mind the constant thirst. I figure it reminds me to drink my Water :D

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
