I am on day 5 of my 2 week pre-op diet. All I can have is 3 to 4 8oz Protein shakes, broth, and can add crystal light to my Water. The headaches and tiredness have subsided but the hunger pangs are in full force.

I'm in week 2 of my pre-op diet. 3 Protein shakes and raw vegatables. I am starved, tired, and cranky. <_<

I am on Day 3 of a four week pre-op diet that consists of 4 Protein shakes a day (Myoplex Lite) and raw vegetables. The first two days were ROUGH but the weird, foggy feeling is finally gone and so is most of my real hunger. Dealing with head hunger periodically, though!

I have the requirements for my two week preop diet. I guess I am lucky, I have the choice of two different plans, which I can pick and choose from. 3 Protein shakes a day, or oatmeal and half a cup of fruit for lunch, 1 Greek yogurt and half a cup of fruit for lunch, 3 oz Protein and greens and half a potato for dinner. And to supplement if I get hungry I can have sugar free Jello, sugar free ice pops, or I can munch on veggies.

That's the same day my liquid diet starts. But the only difference is my doctors wants me to drink all 4 of my Protein Shakes per day. Two with milk and two with Water or crystal light.

I start my liquid diet on Friday April 4th. I can have up to 3 Protein Shakes a day, 1 cup of milk, all the broth and sugar free clears I want, and only cramed Soup (strained). That is it! I wish they would let me much on some raw veggies. I just can't wrap my head around not chewing anything for the 6 weeks (pre op and post op). My teeth are going to go into shock! lol

Every surgeon's office has different requirements (and different pre-op diets). My doctor's office said that they do this diet for either 2, 4 or 6 weeks, depending on the patient's BMI. The goal is for the patients to lose weight and also to shrink the liver to make the surgery easier.

I start my 2 week liquid diet next Monday. I am nervous for that and am going to have a lot on my to-do list to keep my mind as busy as I can. I can have 3-4 Protein shakes, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles and broth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
