Is there anyone on here also having to do three weeks of Optifast shakes? I start on the 29th of May and I am dreading it. :-(

It's a doctor prescribed shake. I had a written prescription to have filled at the pharmacy. It's made by Nestle. I'm only allowed to drink the four shakes each day. That and as much Water as I want. Talk about boring. It's complete nutrition in a shake. I'm supposed to lose 30-40 pounds in three weeks while I'm on it. And it cost me $300 for three weeks worth. Not cheap.

I don't have benefits/private insurance, so I had to pay out of pocket. But I can claim it on next years income tax return, so that'll help a bit.

@annymarie Go check out their website. You'll find all kinds of instructions and ideas for how to use their Protein powders.< /p>

Based on my experience, if you get it too hot, it will clump up and not dissolve properly. It doesn't hurt the protein, just makes it clumpy.

I have to buy a package from the doctor's office that costs $250. It is 4 containers of Celebrate, Bariatric Advantage, or Unjury shakes and all the necessary Vitamins and Calcium supplements to get you started.

WOW that's a lot of weight to lose in 3 wks. I've never heard of Optifast it sounds better than my liquid diet. I get broth sugar free Jello, and Protein Shakes. I start on the 29th also.

We also have to get the vitamins and supplements we will need to take immediately after surgery, and they have to be chewable or liquid form. That cost over $150.00. And I had to switch up some of my regular prescriptions to ones that could either be crushed or in liquid form. And liquid form of my antidepressants was $140.00 vs $20.00. It's been an expensive month with those and all the vitamins and Optifast shakes. But I suppose since I won't be eating regular food, I'll save a bit of money, lol. Also, things are more expensive to buy here in Canada vs the USA.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
