I'm June 9th Zelda -- I've got a cariologist appointment to go and then the pre-surgery with the surgeon and we'll be good to go! I'm really excited about it now but getting a little bored with the waiting!

Ginger snaps: we can compare now with each other. It's less then six weeks. I have started eating smaller, walking more, no straws. I went and bought a special drinking glass without a straw. I still want to get a small dish and silverware for me to use too. I haven't told many people for fear of being judged. Important people know though.

Do you have to be on a special diet for two weeks prior? I don't think I do with m surgeon. I'm in Central, NY. Where are you from? I have no one that is going through this with me.. I hoe you don't mind me tagging along. I'm scared but so excited to start a new life.. You are having a sleeve as well?

I was approved today and I got a date today. My big day is June 25th. My preop is June 19th. I shouldn't have to pay anything because my out of pocket and deductible have been met. I am so excited.

Zelda my doc doesn't require a preop diet for me. He does if ur BMI is over 45.

I'm in central Jersey and would love to stay in touch and support each other. Best wishes!

Got a call from surgeon's office this morning, I only have to pay 75 dollars for a years worth of dietitian visits after my surgery. I owe nothing for the surgery itself. This news can only make a person a happy and a little less stressed.

My company is so horrid with the leave process. They won't let me request a leave until 2 days before surgery ,then they will be calling the hospital to insure I actually had surgery.

That is terrible that they would do something like that. I don't think the hospital can tell them you had surgery due to privacy issues.

I agree.. That's a HIPA violation if they do. The can't do that. Did you talk to an HR person at your company ? So sorry for your problems.

Hi everyone,

Well this is my second time setting a date. I went in originally on March 17th, got all set up, all 6 small incisions made and then they found a huge hernia that they needed to repair with open surgery so they couldn't do my bypass. I was bummed when I woke up because I thought I was done. Today I went to see my surgeon and my new date is June 4th. He wanted me to do it next week but I'm not prepared and needed to get things in order at work again.

It's funny because up until the day of surgery i was a wreck but the morning of surgery I was soooooooo calm.

How is everyone doing?

I got a call saying my surgery is June 4th. I have my last nut appt May 1st. They went ahead and scheduled mine because I have some work schedule issues. I start my pre-op diet May 21st. I am excited to get the weight loss started. I also have a bmi of 35 so for six months I had to stay the same.

Hi Consuela,

we are surgery buddies :)

According to them, that is the policy. They will not give out leave pay if they cant confirm if you actually had surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
