What is a meal like after 6+ months

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am scheduled for May and am curious what meals actually look like after the initial diet restrictions. I understand that in the first few months, it's very limited, etc., but what does a normal day look like 6-12 months in? What about holidays? Do you get to enjoy?

Thank you very much!

My meals look like they did pre-op but on a salad plate as opposed to a dinner plate. Yesterday lunch was a quarter of a stuffed chicken breast and about 1/3 -1/2 c of broccoli. I can eat anything just less of it. Some days however head hunger joins the fun and I eat all day or larger portions- e.g half a chicken breast.

Great. Thank you - that sounds great and you've obviously done wonderfully (congrats)! Next question if you don't mind, when you get head hunger and you eat through the day or eat larger portions, your sleeve isn't as restrictive? Or do you get sick? Or do you just deal with feeling full and crappy?

A typical meal for me is a few ounces of Protein and some vegs. I also snack in the morning and afternoon, usually some nuts or Jerky.

I have "bad" days when I want to eat garbage, and unfortunately it goes down easier than good foods. I have a problem with candy, especially. I can't eat as much as I used to, but I can still eat more than I wish I could. If I keep myself full on Protein and nuts and vegs, then I have no room or desire for candy, so I have to stay vigilant with eating regularly so I don't get to the point that I want candy.

For holidays and special events, I mostly avoid the carbs and stick to the meat and vegs, with a couple of bites of dessert and a glass of wine. I do this because I can't eat everything I'm offered, so I have to decide what I am going to eat, and how much of each thing. If I start out with a roll, I won't get anything else down after that.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
