New to site- just starting journey!

Hello fellow losers! What a great site this is here! I'm so glad I found it!

I wanted to introduce myself- my name is Melanie, I'm 36 years old, and I am just starting this journey. I've been overweight my entire post-pubescent life, and it's this to do something about it. I'm currently 5'10" and 306 pounds. My goal is 199.

I has my first general info session on 3/20. From there, it's been so fast that it's a bit scary! Had the individual intake appointment on 3/21, my first nutritionist meeting on 3/24, and scheduled for second session 4/16. Then, only two more until they schedule me in June or July! Thankfully, I'm healthy enough that I don't have to go for a sleep study. (The doctor shook my hand and said I was the first one he had in over a month- woot!)

Right now, I'm nervous about the psychologist exam- I hear he's a bugger. What did you get asked? I've never been to therapy or a psychologist, so I have no clue what to expect!!!

Also, truth be told, I'm not 100% sure I will have the surgery. I'm so risk adverse, and there's an element of me that's freaked out! I have been researching this for over 10 years! I also know that I have tried and tried to do this myself and the weight never stays off-- my PCOS and other things are getting worse, and it's only a matter of time until I'm in even worse health.... So why wait until I get worse. I have great health insurance now (cost for all of surgery/visits will be no more than $500 total in 2014) and I have no clue how long my work will keep this insurance plan.

Anyway- that's me. Can't wait to get to know you and thanks in advance for your support!

Let me be the first to say "Welcome!." I wish you all the best on your journey. My psychologist asked me during my exam if I had ever done any drugs, I replied not yet. He started laughing so hard, he had to stop the exam and collect himself. I looked at him dead-pan and said that food has always been my drug of choice. Needless to say I passed the exam, and he will probably never forget what I said. So, during your exam relax, take a deep breath and just be yourself. I never got the impression that he was looking for ways to disqualify me. I hope you have a positive experience like I did. Take care. ;)

Thanks for the welcome!

I really appreciate it! I'm definitely a bit "on edge" about everything, so your kind words were well received!

Good luck Melanie! My psych evaluation is next week. I am looking forward to getting one more item done on the "check list." My evaluation will have 2 parts - a question/answer "visit" and then a true/false written test. It will hopefully be as straightforward as it sounds!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
