What Causes SLIME?

Recommended Posts

I would like to know what is causing the slime every time I eat or drink. I must admit up until yesterday I was drinking while eatng. I know, I know I'm suppose to do that, but could that the cause?

The slime is your body's natural reaction to help lube up your throat and I guess your pouch to get the food down. It happens to me all the time. Just be careful and go slow. Stop drinking with your meals because you don't want to stretch your pouch.

I knew what is was, but I'm wondering what's causing it to come up. I would sip with my meals to move the food, but I know that isn't good. So far my pouch is fine.

Sheila, I'm worried about you. I remember that you were scheduled for a fill a couple of weeks ago. Did you get the fill or did the doctor decide to wait because of the problems you're having? If you did get a fill, you might want to consider taking it out. If you didn't get the fill, then it really sounds like you're still having a lot of swelling and irritation just from the band being in place. You may just be one of those people who is really sensitive. I don't believe that sliming is a daily occurrence for most bandsters. I only slimed a little bit when I had a piece of roast beef stuck that one time. Other than that one incidence, when I eat, you'd never know I have a band. I wouldn't think that drinking with meals would cause the slime, but I would recommend against it because of the chance of pouch dilatation. You might want to cut out drinking and see if your condition improves, though. I could be wrong about the sliming/drinking connection. Keep us posted.

I've only been banded since Valentine's Day and I had a fill of 1.3 cc on Thursday of last week. I have never "slimed" so it concerns me that you do and all the time.

The doc decided not to give me an adjustment due to the problems. He said I probably had fat around my stomach area when the band was place and that's where the left side aches are coming from. He thinks the left shoulder pain shoud go away...I hope so. On yesterday I didn't drink/sip while eating and I was fine and nooo slime! So today I didn't drink/sip while eating I am good. I think that's was the problem, I told the nurse at another office that I want to drink while eating and she said it will only empty my pouch faster, and that's why I would do it. I remember reading on another thread about Gastroparesis and it freaked me out. So I wanted to make sure my stomach was constantly digesting food. :phanvan

Thanks Enterprise1

I'm having problems with slime. Unlike what most people post about it slime, it doesn't seem to happen to me because food is stuck. It always happens after the first few small well-chewed bites of food. It's like my little pouch has filled up with saliva since my last meal, and then when a bit of food goes into the pouch, it pushes all that sitting slime up into my throat and I have to throw it up. When I throw up, the food doesn't come up, only the slime, and then I can usually eat my meal after. I don't know why this happens, because I'm eating slow, chewing well, and it happens after only the first bite or two, so it's not that I'm full. If I eat something before a meal that can "soak up" the slime/saliva sitting in my otherwise empty pouch, that seems to work. But, the foods I've found that can "soak up" the slime is bad stuff like chips! Plus, I can't always eat something 15 minutes before a meal, especially if at a restaurant. Help!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
