mfrid175 3 Posted March 26, 2014 Had band to sleeve done last Thur, mar 20. Slept great in the hospital and the first night home - last 2 nights have been sleeping about 4 hours but tossing and waking up. I am not sleeping during the day. Anyone experience this or know a reason why?
elfnow 277 Posted March 26, 2014 Probably cortisol (stress hormone). You just had something traumatic happen to a major organ, you have been going through famine and drought.... and your body is thinking "oh $=!+ we're gonna starve if we don't go foraging!! Stomach, quick, tell brain you're hungry!!" But that part of the stomach is what's been removed.... Between that and the Vitamins and B12 and all, your body's probably on "alert mode" for a little while. Happened to me, too.... A lot of stress makes my skin feel crawly, and I spend a lot of time in the shower trying to make that feeling go away. In the 2 weeks after surgery I was in the shower sometimes 5x a day. Rest while you can, and if you're awake and bored, sip fluids.
mfrid175 3 Posted March 26, 2014 Thanks for the insight. Maybe I'll get some sleep soon ???? 1 elfnow reacted to this
CrazyJaney 775 Posted March 26, 2014 Pain meds make me sleepy but cause me to have poor quality slept. I'm tired, fall asleep, wake up restless. I do tester off pain meds.
Sarahjane79 397 Posted March 26, 2014 I slept for almost 4 weeks on my couch, after surgery. I finally tried my bed and was comfy for about a week. The last 3-4 nights has been terrible sleep, even on my couch, due to pain and just not being able to get comfortable. I'm planning on taking some pain meds tonight in hopes I'll get some sleep tonight.
ChelleDJM 3 Posted March 27, 2014 Oh! I am so right here with you! I was sleeved on the 18th and did well for a couple nights, then I would sleep for about 4 hours and then not be able to go back to sleep. Now, for the last two nights I cannot get to sleep and I stay up all night. Last night I slept about 2 hours. It's terrible. My post-op is Friday so I am going to ask about what to do. Melatonin has been suggested to me. I hope we both get sleep soon!
CrazyJaney 775 Posted March 27, 2014 I have a theory. Preop, when I have PMS, I can't sleep. They say estrogen is broken down in fats cells and you release it when you're losing. I'm exhausted but can't fall asleep and then wake up with hot flashes. Maybe that's what's happening. I am going to take 1/2 an antihistamine tonight or a zofran just to sleep. I'm so tired. Probably because I don't sleep... hah Edited March 27, 2014 by Sarahjane79
Kindle 8,667 Posted March 27, 2014 I had issues sleeping, too. Melatonin can help, but The best thing I started doing was drinking a big cup of Sleepytime Extra herbal tea right before bedtime. The warmth on my tummy is very soothing and relaxing and the camomille and valerian helps with sleep. Not to mention the extra 12oz of Fluid to add to your daily total. mfrid175 3 Posted March 27, 2014 Crazy Janey - your estrogen theory may be something! I rarely have a period, maybe once every 5-6 months, lasts only 1 day and very, very light. The first night I couldn't sleep happened to be the day I started my period! I even commented to my friend that I was bleeding like I did as a teenager - sorry TMI. I go for my 1 week post-op tomorrow so I will inquire for all us non-sleeping estrogen ridden sleevers!! Thanks for all your comments 1 CrazyJaney reacted to this
Sarahjane79 397 Posted March 27, 2014 I could try melatonin... but I've tried it prior to surgery and it never worked for me, so I'm not sure it would work now.
