Had band to sleeve done last Thur, mar 20. Slept great in the hospital and the first night home - last 2 nights have been sleeping about 4 hours but tossing and waking up. I am not sleeping during the day.

Anyone experience this or know a reason why?

Probably cortisol (stress hormone). You just had something traumatic happen to a major organ, you have been going through famine and drought.... and your body is thinking "oh $=!+ we're gonna starve if we don't go foraging!! Stomach, quick, tell brain you're hungry!!" But that part of the stomach is what's been removed....

Between that and the Vitamins and B12 and all, your body's probably on "alert mode" for a little while. Happened to me, too....

A lot of stress makes my skin feel crawly, and I spend a lot of time in the shower trying to make that feeling go away. In the 2 weeks after surgery I was in the shower sometimes 5x a day.

Rest while you can, and if you're awake and bored, sip fluids. :)

I slept for almost 4 weeks on my couch, after surgery. I finally tried my bed and was comfy for about a week. The last 3-4 nights has been terrible sleep, even on my couch, due to pain and just not being able to get comfortable. I'm planning on taking some pain meds tonight in hopes I'll get some sleep tonight.

Oh! I am so right here with you! I was sleeved on the 18th and did well for a couple nights, then I would sleep for about 4 hours and then not be able to go back to sleep. Now, for the last two nights I cannot get to sleep and I stay up all night. Last night I slept about 2 hours. It's terrible. My post-op is Friday so I am going to ask about what to do. Melatonin has been suggested to me. I hope we both get sleep soon!

I have a theory. Preop, when I have PMS, I can't sleep. They say estrogen is broken down in fats cells and you release it when you're losing. I'm exhausted but can't fall asleep and then wake up with hot flashes. Maybe that's what's happening. I am going to take 1/2 an antihistamine tonight or a zofran just to sleep. I'm so tired.

If you think of it, let me know know what your doc says. I had had my post op appt yesterday and completely forgot to ask! Probably because I don't sleep... hah

I had issues sleeping, too. Melatonin can help, but The best thing I started doing was drinking a big cup of Sleepytime Extra herbal tea right before bedtime. The warmth on my tummy is very soothing and relaxing and the camomille and valerian helps with sleep. Not to mention the extra 12oz of Fluid to add to your daily total.

Crazy Janey - your estrogen theory may be something! I rarely have a period, maybe once every 5-6 months, lasts only 1 day and very, very light.

The first night I couldn't sleep happened to be the day I started my period! I even commented to my friend that I was bleeding like I did as a teenager - sorry TMI.

I go for my 1 week post-op tomorrow so I will inquire for all us non-sleeping estrogen ridden sleevers!!

Thanks for all your comments

I could try melatonin... but I've tried it prior to surgery and it never worked for me, so I'm not sure it would work now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
