Meals-to-go ideas 12 days after surgery

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for April 16th. I plan on taking a total of 12 days off and resuming work on the 28th. Before you think I'm crazy, let me explain. I'm self employed. If I don't work, I don't get paid. I don't get sick or vacation pay. Good news is, I usually only work 3 days a week and typically 6 hours per day. I sit and listen for a living, so it isn't strenuous work. My biggest worry is yawning at clients or developing blood clots from sitting too long! Please help me plan food I can pack to have with me at my office. What are you guys eating 2 weeks out from surgery? My lack of planning is the #1 contributor to me becoming overweight. I would typically eat out. I want to pack things from home and NOT eat fast food. Ideas?

I only took 3 days off work for my procedure (plus the following weekend) before returning to work. I'm two weeks post op and I bring Protein drinks (muscle milk is a fave), yogurt, jell-o, applesauce, broth/cream Soups to work.

Also you couldn't eat fast food if you wanted. You would probably be in a lot of pain and discomfort if you tried that two weeks after surgery.

My surgery was on a Friday and I was at work (from home) on Monday, I returned to the office the following Monday. You can do it!

As for food, I pack a little lunch box with me everywhere I go. I keep an assortment of things like: yogurt, laughing cow cheese wedges, hummus, deli ham, cheese sticks, guacamole. At 2 weeks, I packed refried Beans with cheese, scrambled egg,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
