steel cut oatmeal? bad idea to eat every day?

Recommended Posts

I been finding myself eating oatmeal every morning, Just wondering if the carbs are to much in this and should I cut down on it. I usually make it with bananas , apples or blueberries.

Thanks in advance!

I think it's just a matter of individual diet. As far as carbs go, they say the steel cut oatmeal is very good for you.

I love and miss my steel cut oatmeal days. For we banders it's a slider food and doesn't give us the satiety we need. Lots of Fiber and a low glycemic value so it should be fine for sleevers and bypass folks.

Lots of carbs in 1/4 cup according to my fitness pal. It also only has 6 grams of carbs. The fruit will give you Fiber also. I don't think eating something everyday is a good idea simply because variety in your diet will keep you from getting bored in what your eating. Why don't you try to add a scoop of unflavored Protein like Unjury or something like that with your oatmeal. I will keep you satisfied longer than just eating oatmeal and you will really bump up your protein intake from 6 grams to 27 by just adding the protein. Remember being a bariatric patient is all about the protein. If you want consistent results get in your protein first. I also eat almost the same thing for Breakfast every morning. But I have a cup of almond milk and a scoop of Unjury vanilla, strawberry or unflavored protein. Its fast and I have to be at work by 7:00 am in the morning with a 30 minute drive. Good luck, Mark

Is this to much . I have no trouble finishing it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
