New Today--Band Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I've never joined a discussion forum before, but need all the help I can get! My surgery is tomorrow and I'm a nervous wreck. Had difficulty with 2-week liver shrinking diet, but am committed to doing everything I'm told to make this a success. I'm not sure where the nerves are coming from, I've done my research and want to trade what feels good in the moment for a life of feeling good. My best to all of you on this journey! I'm glad to be part of the club...I think! --melissa

Melissa...welcome and you're completely normal with the nerves. I cried two nights before my surgery from nerves as well. We always think...if I would just eat less, exercise more on my own I wouldn't have to do something so drastic. Well....we got here saying we'd do all that and what if this or what if that...it didn't work. THIS tool has helped me tremendously. I'm not going to say it's easy all the time or that it's a miracle because you know you have to work WITH the tool in order for it to work. I have to say it's kept me in line when I was ready to give up a few times...unlike my diets when I felt that way and did give up...now I can't. It's just the push I need to keep going. Good luck with your surgery and welcome to Bandland :o

Hi Melissa!

Welcome :o ..You'll like this forum - It's a great resource for answers to your questions!

It's normal to have nerves. I was really nervous and reconsidering the surgery. I was more or less afraid I would not wake back up ... But the night before and day of surgery, I had nerves of steel. I was so calm, I surprised myself. I was not scared or anything. My time was pushed back serveral hours b/c of an OR emergency (nothing to do w/ my surgeon) so the only real emotion i had hardcore was the annoyance with waiting!

You'll be just fine and so happy once it's over and you start to see results! GOOD LUCK!

Welcome, Melissa! Being nervous is very normal. The day before my surgery, I was a train wreck. Everything will be fine, and you'll be home walking, walking, walking to get rid of the gas pains before you know it! :paranoid :D

Check back with us and let us know how your surgery went! :o

Your messages are just what I needed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Of course, in my current state of emotion I'm crying my eyes out, but it's just from knowing you are out there and know how I'm feeling and I am so grateful to you. --melissa (And please don't pay too much attention to the "danger" in my user name. My daughter is a "scenester" in Richmond VA and her scene name is/was Caity Danger and now she's dubbed me Melissa Danger. I'm about as dangerous as a 230-lb. marshmallow!)

Hey Melissa

We would worry if you weren't just a little bit nervous. It is surgery, after all.

Stay strong. You will be fine.

Hugs!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
