PCOS and telling my friends

Recommended Posts

Hey ladies, I just turned 27 on Father's Day an I also have pcos. I have had since I was 15, but was never properly diagnosed until I was 23 an me an the hubby were trying to conceive. When I was younger the obg would say that my irregular periods were just hormones! As I got older it got so bad that I would got months without a period an then I would get one that would last a month! :( it got to the point that I would wear a pad everyday for that just incase... I would be ok in morning start by lunch an then get home in evening and gone again! Then wake up to it:( Horrible... Horrible... Horrible I tell ya! Fast forwarding to my current situation... My fertility specialist recommended the sleeve due to such a high success rate, so I got with my insurance company did requirements an got it done! I was sleeved (Laparoscopic) in Houston Tx by dr Scarsborough. Had surgery on 5/28/14 an started cycle about 4 days later, but it only lasted 2 weeks! Yea I no that sounds long to most but it was incredible for me, since I'm used to the 2-3 month one that's off an on! Lol.. I still would wear a pad just incase it crept back;) lol.. When I left hospital I weighed at 290 an today I'm 263, so that's 27 lbs in exactly 1 month.. But get this I'm 4 sizes down to!! Incredible journey so far that amazes me more every day:) Good luck to all of you, an lets kick pcos' butt!!! you, an lets kick pcos' butt!!!

Oh yea.. I told everyone about my surgery! I'm a very blunt person an I can care less what they think. It's NOT the easy way out, thus is sooo much harder! I was very excited and anxious to get surgery done an my family an friends were to! They all new what me an the hubby were going through trying to conceive an were very supportive of my decision.

I was told I had PCOS as I had an insulin resistance prior to surgery. However, as I was preparing for surgery I went off of the birth control pill (which as many know is the treatment for it) and immediately regular periods. And this continued happening month after month, much to the suprise of my doctors, and in turn made them take back the diagnosis of PCOS. Having the weightloss surgery did not change my period at all, I still get it like clockwork every month around the same day, unless I am sampling out some other birthcontrol method. The surgery resolved my insulin resistance completely.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
