Want to back out.

Recommended Posts

I've been posting here a lot lately. I leave on Wednesday to fly to Mexico for my sleeve. Every night I have regrets on even starting this process. My husband and sister are very supportive of me having this surgery. I was booked to have a lap band done yrs ago and backed out. For the last 5 yrs all my hubby has been hearing was I wish I wish I wish I had gone through with it. Now this time is here and I'm wanting someone to tell its ok to back out.

I'm so afraid. Of everything. I have two babies at home that I'm afraid I won't get back too. I know the chances are slim. But it still scary because they are what I live for. I'm afraid of life afterwards. Having your stomach cut off is a pretty dramatic thing to do too your body. I

Don't want to leave my family for 5 days to go to a different country to have this surgery.

I wish I knew if I was doing the right thing. I'm afraid if I don't go ill just disappoint everyone again.

Ps. My sister is coming with me.

Also when signing up I never realized the amount of work this will take. I'm self pay. So no one tells you the ins and out of the thing. They just keep asking for your deposit and a pic of the money order your going to bring. I'm so emotional drained from reading ppls posts. And the thing is I had no idea the things that consisted in maintaining this lifestyle. The Protein you need, the carbs you don't, tracking, counting. I counted and tracked on weight watchers. That didn't work out so well. I didn't know my hair will fall out!!! I have Alopecia

As it is!!!! I don't want more to fall out.

I guess I don't this as my emergency way out it as I don't really have medical problems. I know going the way I'm going I will have them.

Just had to get some thoughts out :s

-confused!

You need a mentor who has already went through this...I worry about my hair thinning but it will grow back, and in the words of my friend, "they sell wigs". Good luck and pray about it, God Bless!!!

Don't be scared and don't back out. Some of the best surgeons are in Mexico. I can't answer on the hair issue as I shave my head. I am scheduled for Wednesday the 26th. I am nervous but not scared. Nervous about my new journey. You can do it. Be confident in yourself.

Don't back out. What you are feeling is completely normal. You will be fine. And as far as going to Mexico. So many people on here have gone to Mexico as well. They have had rave reviews. Should also post on the pre-op site where u will see how nervous any of us are and how were all in the same boat.

I am a believer that what will he will be. If something is meant to happen it will happen no matter where u r. Stuck to your decision and stop saying what if and say WHEN I LOOSE THE WEIGHT. good luck.

I'm not in the US. I'm in Canada. It's $22,000 in Canada! It's not even an option to do it here.

If you do not go you will be in the same spot you are in now 5 years from now. How much more active could you be with your kids and husband in that time? How much better could you feel about yourself? I would be scared too, going to another country and leaving loved ones behind but in a year from now those 5 days will seem like nothing. Treat it like an adventure you and your sister are going on. Have fun where you can and look forward to the new life you will have. Good Luck!!

Jmcp. Before u go through with the surgery u really need to be mentally prepared. Fears are normal but if u haven't had some form of counseling it is going to be tough on your psychi. The sleeve is not reversible so keep that in mind and be comfortable with that. It takes hard work which I'm sure u can do.

Good luck in your decision.

Don't do this until you are sure you are ready. That's the bottom line. It's a lot of work, it's a lot of commitment and it's a huge lifestyle change.

It's totally worth it, in my opinion, but that's because I knew I was more than ready. Until you are, you shouldn't do it. That's the bottom line.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and advice. I'm find during the day and know I can do it. I'm not looking at this as a solution but as a tool to help me. Right now I don't take pics with my kids, don't want to meet new people, and won't even go on a vacation. I know this is the right decision. It's just when the night time comes I'm alone with my thoughts and that's never a good thing haha

I am glad to hear your last post. Seems you are feeling a little better. We all had those thoughts. I have a 9 year old and husband and I cried a few days before the surgery. Then day of it i was like I CAN DO THIS! Now here i am 8 months out and down 110 lbs and so happy i did this.

I wish you the best and a speedy recovery!

Lipstick lady is right, you need to be 100% mentally prepared and committed to this surgery and the LIFETIME changes that are required. There's more than one way to succeed (for example, I don't track or weigh or count anything) but you have to be willing to address your personal food demons and make changes. Like you've heard before, the surgery is only a tool and the hardest part is psychological.

But a lot of your concerns seem to be the short term issues....being gone for 5 days, losing your hair, etc. these are tiny things compared to the long term changes you will experience.

Yes, I think doing this would help you have a longer, healthy life, but you need to be mentally ready to make sure it is a happy life. It's so easy to fail if you arent prepared and you don't want to live with regrets. As for surgery in Mexico, that part shouldn't be an issue. Depending on who you are going with, No more risks than doing it locally. You should check for local support groups or counseling services you will be able to access afterwards. Sounds like you have the start of a good support system with your husband and sister.

I had so many emotions as well it was so hard id cry thinking of the worst. I had my surgery march 18th so not even a week. I'm not going to lie first days kicked my butt to the max! Throwing up tiredness not being able to have all the Protein in. But if you see me now I feel damn good! Even from day one I never regret it. Sorry but I've never seen a fat obese older person walking around and I knew if I didn't do it I'd be cutting my life in half. And the hair thing I'm scared about that too but just like the other person said They make wigs why not? I already been looking at cute natural looking wigs just so I know it's there and I don't have to panic. Good look of your choice! I'll be thinking of you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
