Less than a month til surgery...

Recommended Posts

Aloha all,

My gastric bypass surgery is scheduled for April 21, 2014. I've done such a good job logging my food and making healthy eating choices since December when I joined my hospitals program, but since actually scheduling my surgery a week ago though I've found it so hard to avoid my old pitfalls. Perhaps now I have, "this is my last chance" mentality- but it is ruining all the work I've done so far. I have had nightmares about gaining weight and then denying me the day if my surgery because of it. This has been a logistic nightmare to plan because I'm a teacher and have to take so much time off work. I would love some encouraging words, stories or tips to get me through my last 29 days before surgery.

Thanks all!

You can do this. Write out a plan. Go on MyFitnessPal.com and record your daily intake and exercise. Every single day, review your progress. Follow your doctor's pre-op protocol. It's for your safety. Call your NUT and tell her or him you're struggling and ask for advice. They want you to succeed. Stay connected here. This final month will really go by fast. It's so worth it! P.S. My last "chewable" meal was (too much) fried fish. It's not all it's cracked up to be. LOL. If I had that meal to do over again, I swear I would just have had some balanced normal portion of something healthy. I'm on liquids now, 10 days post-op and won't chew again until April 24. We can do this together!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
