loriannfos 25 Posted March 24, 2014 Hi folks, I've been doing some research on various Protein formulations, whey vs soy vs casein vs whey Protein isolate ... I have read that whey protein isolate has the highest bioavailability among the different subtypes. It is also on the higher end of the price range. I think the Premier Protein ready-made shakes (a mix of whey and soy Proteins , I believe) are quite tasty, actually tastier than the more expensive 'Oh Yeah!' whey protein isolate shakes (except strawberry - oh yeah ready mix is the tastier ) I wonder about the bioavailability of Premier Protein ... Eg what percentage of the protein delivered is the gut able to absorb? I haven't been able to find any stats on this. Any input would be greatly appreciated! :-). Thanks and best wishes to all in your weight loss journeys! Yours Truly, A Protein Geek :-)

mrsto 2,925 Posted March 24, 2014 I like Premier ready made myself. I don't have the scientific answer to your question, but I can tell you that when I drink them on a regular basis, my nails are hard, strong, and grow like crazy. I know it's from the drinks, because I do not have this happen otherwise. You might want to look into egg white Protein as well. As for the powders, Jay Robb in chocolate is my favorite. It is expensive, but overall the egg white source digests the best for me. Here is a link, but you can get it at the Vitamin Shoppe and many other local health & whole food stores. http://www.jayrobb.com/protein/egg-white-protein-chocolate.asp
JeanZ_RN 378 Posted March 24, 2014 I don't think Premier Protein ready-made shakes have significant soy in them. I checked them carefully before I started my pre-op diet, because soy makes my body's thermostat crazy - I feel hot all the time when I consume it.

It messes with your thyroid, and if you have issues...which I do, it's important to stay away from it.
