Well known vs. unknown Dr.'s in Mexico

Recommended Posts

It seems that there are about 4 very popular Dr.'s in Tijuana, Mexico. How many feel more comfortable with a Dr that is very well know/popular vs. a Dr. that does not have a large following?

I am having my surgery with a Dr. that is not on the popular list but is very well qualified. On thing my research did show me was that the Dr.'s move around to different hospitals.

Being an rn, I'm not too fond of egos. I picked a kind gentle man that was educated by a fabulous dr. I am using alighterme with Dr. E. Ortiz (careful, there are two Dr. Ortiz)

I went to dr illan with baja bariatrics. Not as well known as some, but his patients were all fans. I found him to be reputable and professional.

I went with Dr. Ramos-Kelly. I did my research and he had the best qualifications. I am a surgeon myself and didn't care who was most popular but who had the most experience and better surgical background.

If you are sold on your doc, that is all you need! Just be confident in your decision, talk to their patients, and understand exactly what will happen each step of the way during your surgery experience. I had surgery on 2/4/13 and really thought the weight loss was all about the surgeon....nope! That is like saying good drivers only buy Honda's (or insert whatever brand). Your success is all about YOU. Just be sure the doctor has a good track record, operates in a clean facility and has your safety in mind. Make sure you can access your doctor's staff directly for questions after surgery. Good luck in doing your research!

I used Dr. E. Ortiz and alighterme. I had a wonderful experience. I am almost 8 months out and down 85 pounds.

Not sure if Ariel Ortiz is on the popular list, but that's who I went to. I've chatted with another person about this before, but being a nurse and around docs all the time it's very easy to spot ego. That's not Dr Ariel Ortiz at all. He was very different than the man I saw when I watched his videos (except he's just as attractive in person-just sayin). In person, he is hands down one of the most genuine docs I've met with a passion for what he does. I was very surprised. I had already decided with my family if I didn't like him or anything I saw at any point in time or if they felt a certain way about anything, we were getting the hell out of there no matter what was already done. A door was partially open one of the postop days I was there getting checked and I saw him standing speaking to a room of other people sitting down- no attitude, the same man that came into my room preop excited to meet me and about doing my surgery. He likes coffee :) I would try to Skype with some of them if possible if you haven't made a decision.

I went to Dr Quinones last May. I had thought about one that I saw advertised all over the place until I saw how many surgeries he did in a day and I felt like I would be on a production line and felt that if I was last in line and he was tired from so many surgeries that I would end up at a high risk of not having a proper surgery. I think word of mouth from previous patients speaks louder than advertisements.

Best of luck!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
