awwww. Hang in there. It is a normal psychological response from what i have been told. Focus on WHY you made this choice and realize that in no time at all you will be chewing! You can do this. my surgery is on 4/3.... so in a few weeks you can tell me the same thing! LOL you can do this - you really can - this is temporary and you are on your way to fulfilling your dream of a slimmer healthier you. Focus on the long term. I know you can do it! :) Hang tough!

Thank youu im self pay so they dont supply the phsychiatric counseling ive heard that other people get. You dont realize how scared it is when you become completely alone with yourself. You cant eat, drink, smoke ciggarettes, exercise. And plus i have adhd. I feel like im in a cage. And the cage is my body. I know once this passes and i can be myself again it will be "the best choice of my life" but for now i feel stuck

My one psychiatric appointment was only to clear me for surgery, to make sure I was sane I guess! I couldn't see the surgeon until I had that appointment. I don't remember a lot of counseling though. I think that not chewing was the hardest thing for the first 2 weeks. My teeth needed to bite into something! You'll get past that. My hardest thing has been fast food. I have bought 3 meals and thrown them all out just to go through the drive through. Now that's just crazy lol!

Call me weak but its been 9 days since my surgery and i CANT STAND NOT HAVING NORMAL food. I need to chew. Im becoming depressed and angry all the time, help?

My surgery isn't until April 16th so I'm not not talking from experience here.... But could chewing gum partly satisfy the desire to chew? Let me know! I may have to same issue in a few weeks!

its not easy learning how to be alone with yourself and not being able to medicate yourself with food. i worked on organizing projects, watched TV series on netflix and took long slow walks. my 22 year old cat died when i was 3 weeks post op and that week i kinda came to grips with with the fact that i cant eat away my feelings any more. i pretty much felt like i was imploding and freaked out, but made it through the night and felt the next day like i really could do it!

i would suggest seeing a counselor to help you with how you are coping. you will need to create new ways of dealing with your life and will likely need help. i have adhd too and was not able to take my meds again until i was 2 months post op. i am lucky to have great support for my new life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
