How do i refocus....

Recommended Posts

I expect to be cleared by my doctor as far as my sleep apnea goes in the next 3 weeks. Then my doctors send in my insurance request for WLS at that point. I hope to be approved by early May. My issue is that I am going out of the country to visit my daughter and her new husband on May 7th. I was asked to drop 10 pounds before the surgery date and actually lost 13 pounds. I am at the end of this journey to get cleared but I find it hard to focus on maintaining my weight loss. While I expect my trip t Vienna to be my last fling, I'm finding it hard to stay motivated now. I am not sure if its the time involved, or that I have not been in touch with my doctor since December. Everday is a battle and I have gained 3 pounds. That still puts me at where I should be, but I have at least 3 months to go. How do I stay focused on maintaining my weight and not go back to my bad habits. I find it a real issue and I don't know how to stay on the right track. Any help from my friends out there would e appreciated.

Hi you need to ask yourself why are you having these feelings of self sabotage , are you afraid of success? Are you stressing out with every day life that's making you want to result in binge eating or comfort eating? Remember your poor food choices is what got you in this situation, why not journal in a book, go for a walk to deal with your stressors or get a therapist to discuss your issues . I would focus on one day at a time and what is driving me to the point I want to satisfy the crave to binge eat. Good luck .

I think for many of us being overweight in some ways gave us a "free pass" on many things. People didn't expect anything from us because of our weight. Many of us also used it as an excuse for so many things. So as cupcake said, are you afraid of success? I kinda of am. Being fat was almost like a security blanket and when I lose all this weight, what will people expect of me? That's scary.

My nutritionist asked me what I planned to do when I got stressed or upset since turning to food was no longer going to be an option. I taught myself to knit. Well, youtube taught me to knit. I'm not very good at the moment but I hope to improve. Maybe find a charity that needs hats and scarfs. Do something good with my hands.

Think about new things you can do to place the focus off the food.< /p>

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
