A favorite item that you could do without

What is the one thing that you bought before or after surgery that you could not live without? I am referring to a gadget or gizmo that just makes this journey easier? Just curious...

2 things come to mind for me.

My Nalgene 32oz Water bottle with an aftermarket top for easier drinking. Pretty much my post-op security blanket as it goes most everywhere I do.

My treadmill desk setup - primarily use it for walking while gaming or watching tv shows or movies, but it certainly makes the time go by pretty easily ( currently do about 2 hours a day on it ).

I agree with the water bottle and the food scale! Although what really was a lifesaver for me was my Magic Bullet blender. I don't know how I would have made it through the pureed food stage without it! It's also great for blending up Protein Shakes :)

Immediately after surgery it was my phone - I set a timer to chime every 5 minutes...that was my reminder to sip and tracked my Protein and Water intake on my phone.

Now - it's my Magic Bullet to make my shakes and my FitBit.

A coffee cup warmer/plate thing. In the beginning I ate so slow things would become cold fast so it was great. I still use it everyday to keep my tea warm.

These are all great suggestions. Keep them coming. Water bottle for sure, scale and the timer is a great suggestion. What is a treadmill desk? I like the idea of being entertained while you are active but I am having trouble visualizing this.

My smoothie mixer, Blender Bottle and Water bottle with sip top. My roommate's treadmill for the first couple weeks (hard to get outside and walk off the gas pains when it was either snowing or below zero).

I have yet to weigh, measure, count or track anything. I vowed to do this without obsessing over numbers since that's no different than all the annoying diets I've ever been on.

My most indispensable thing has been my iPhone. Without it, I am not sure what I would have done. All I know for sure is , my phone is my lifeline for my fitbit, my fitness pal meal tracker, and get-2-goal ( weight tracker) and of course this forum . It's been absolutely invaluable to me.

This forum, a Magic Bullet, and when I wore that out , a Nutri Bullet. Also, my local YMCA for swimming 3x a week, and my local dog park with the nice walking trails. Last but not least , my hubby for being so supportive and helpful !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
