Recycled 2,182 Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) Any VSG vets out there that happen to be or were on meds for cardiac issues? had a MI a while back and got a stent and have been on Plavix, (anti -coagulant/ thinner ) Lipator, (statin) and Toporal XL (beta blocker) I had my follow up appointment with my cardiologist too soon after my VSG and didn't think to ask about the future status of my routine cardiac meds. Have any of you stopped taking any of your routine cardiac meds due to improvement from you VSG and weight loss? I take the Toporal XL to regulate hearbeat rather than for any blood pressure issue and it really inhibits my ability to reach target heart rate when exercising. Makes losing an extra difficult effort. However, over the years I have become dependent on the meds keeping me alive, so I'm reluctant to pose any suggestions to my cardiologist that maybe I should reduce or come off any of them. What has been your experiences? Anyone? Edited March 23, 2014 by Recycled
carstanger 346 Posted March 23, 2014 I'm 67 and 16 months out. I was able to go off Pravachal (statin), CQ10 for my joints because of the statin, fish oil, and my high blood pressure medicine. I don't have the same issues though. I am still on a Beta Blocker as my heart races when I exercise, and shoots too much adrenaline. Hope your doctor lets you go off some of the meds but it's not the end of the world if you can't if my feeling. 1 Recycled reacted to this

My cholesterol has dropped drastically since surgery and is really low now, so I can see maybe dropping or lowering the statin. The Plavix I'm sure I'm stuck with forever. And the beta blocker is all about regulating the heart and I doubt losing weight alone is gonna change that much, unless I can reverse the aging process and get back my 18 year old heart. Well, it was wishful thinking. 1 carstanger reacted to this
Sapot 3 Posted April 10, 2014 Hi, 21 days post-op, saw my cardiologist this week and he is keeping me on all heart meds (Accupril, Plavix, Coreg, Vytorin & Trocor), I am to monitor my blood pressure when I feel tired or light head, he will adjust meds dosages as needed. On the diabetes side, my morning readings have been between 96 -118 daily. I still take medformin, 5 -10 units of Lantus and 5-10 units of Novolog......Just sharing...Si 1 Recycled reacted to this
