Cosmetic surgery and the band

Recommended Posts

I have a lap band and am going for an arm lift and eyelid surgery in 2 weeks. Has anyone with the band who have had cosmetic surgeryndeflate the band prior to surgery?

I just recently went to a support group that had a plastic surgeon as the speaker. It was amazing the transformations of the before and after pictures! The one thing he kept making clear is there will be scarring. One lady did ask the question about the band needing to be unfilled and his recommendation was that was only necessary if they were doing a Tummy Tuck and the port needed to be readjusted to the abdominal wall. Of course, check with your own surgeon for their suggestions. Wish you the best of luck! Be sure to take some before and after photos, even if only for your collection. :)

I had a Tummy Tuck and breast augmentation with my band and never had to deflate it

I just had a LBL. I had to have a low profile port put in but not deflated. However some Fluid was lost during the switch.

Thank you all, I saw the surgeon and he is not going to deflate, and has worked with many lapband patients

You can do it..not required to deflate the band. So head for your surgery with confidence. I had a Tummy Tuck and liposuction after the lap band surgery. I had a discussion with my Doc. Joseph Togba( I did my TT in his clinic, Toronto). So knowing this, he was able to take precautions to avoid the port damage.

I'm getting tt next month and was told mine needed to be deflated

My surgeon said if I was having a TT it would have to be deflated because it's surgery to the abdomen. My arm and eye lift don't require it to be deflated.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
