March 2014 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Stop complaining people and keep your eye on the ball. Remember why we did this it's to get healthy.

I'm not going to get healthy if I'm so disgusted by the food that I can't get in enough calories to function, but thanks for the support.

Hi all! It's been a while since I posted, but I have been reading all the posts as they come. I've seen alot of folks having issues with getting enough food in, and feeling satisfied, and/or not being able to tolerate some foods.

I have been lucky enough to have liked just about everything I've tried, and I've succeeded thus far.

I am 5 1/2 weeks post op, and down 30lbs.

My doctors diet regimen means between weeks 4-6 after I've seen the doc, I can eat whatever I want. Now it's up to ME to make sure what I eat is healthy, and nutritious.

I use the app "MyFitnessPal" to keep track of EVERYTHING I eat. And my doc says don't worry about calories, as long as you are getting enough Protein (60-70g/day), GOOD CARBS, and SOME Fat. Watch SUGAR! and keep SODIUM as low as you can. And HYDRATE!!! 64+oz of Water a day.

So far, if anything, I have had trouble getting enough water.

But for those who are struggling with getting enough protein, I have a list of Protein shakes/powders, etc.....that may help you find a good one. I use "Pure Protein" brand, Frosty chocolate, found in Shoprite, Walmart and probably alot of other places. Maybe I can inbox it to whomever wants it?

And once you can have FISH, it's SO PROTEIN PACKED, so make sure you eat your fish.

I was basically vegetarian for a month (and Fish) and between that, and the shakes, i kept my energy up. Vitamins are a key too.

Well, that's enough babbling....I hope you all are doing well. Keep your chins up, and never give up!

This is a new life for us all!

I had a very small amount of Qdoba tortilla Soup with sour cream and cheese. That hit the spot. OMG. I feel so much better now.

Me too! I thought by this time I would have more energy.

I'm getting to the point where the mushy foods are making me feel mentally nauseous. You know before I even eat them. I'm so sick of it. I've always been a big texture person and the mushy texture is really getting to be gross. I am eating less because it's so unappealing.

There's only so much cottage cheese, mashed potatoes and Greek yogurt one person can take.

I want something crispy!!!!

It is the variety i am missing. I know I am not hungry as such, I am just trying to eat the best of what i can have. I spent nearly 50 bucks on whey Protein and I can not stomach it in the shake. I will try it in other things tomorrow.

I just had a spoon of refried Beans with salsa, a little light cheese and light sour cream. It was like a mini Mexican feast, it was nice to break the monotony.

It wont be long and we can have crispy.

I hear ya. Has anyone else's tastes changed? I was a huge milk drinker before. Like, two large glasses with dinner type of drinker. Now I drink like 1/4 cup and it tastes awful. I made tuna salad, as well as egg salad, which I used to love. Now it tastes weird to me. Everything does. I get to start regular foods in 5 days and although I am excited about the variety, I am just sure that I am not going to enjoy 99% of things.

Definitely puts a new meaning to "eat to live, not live to eat". That's literally what I've been doing lately.

I had 3 NSVs at Disneyland yesterday:

1. My feet never hurt. Before surgery my feet would hurt within the first half hour.

2. I could go through the turnstiles without getting stuck for a couple seconds (which was always mortifying)

3. My boyfriend, daughter, and myself can all fit on Peter Pan! My boyfriend would always have to ride by himself because the three of us couldn't all fit together in one ship. Not to mention we weren't even squished, we were comfortable :).

Edit: Also noticed I am out of the 40s BMI range!

Anyone else have any NSV's they want to share?

Kind of a vague one but I put on a shirt I haven't worn in months and I just stared at myself. I look so different in this shirt now. I just kept staring. :)

@@Chanlissa lol luv it he was wonderful dr sadek I loved him!! These liquid vitamins suck every morning it hard to get down but I am trying. Haven't tried chewable but after this pack I might to see if it cheaper too. How are you doing since surgery?

I had Dr. Sadek too! I've been putting the Vitamins in my water bottle that I mix with nectar (Fuzzy Navel flavor) Protein and sip it all day long...it tastes like fruit punch and since you're drinking it out of a bottle you can't smell the nasty protein/vitamin stench that makes me gag...also since you're sipping it all day long, the vitamins aren't as hard on your stomach...just something to think about!

Just finished my weekly fashion show. Saturdays are my day to go shopping in my closet. I look good in a few pair of slacks that I couldn't wear a month ago.

On a bad note, I'm really fighting Protein or should I say it's fighting me. I'm getting a nauseous feeling at just the smell. What are your favorites, and how have you changed them up?

Another Dr. Sadek patient! I had my surgery 3/21 and started soft food Friday. Sadly and happily, I really seem to be able to eat anything. I've been testing things out this weekend and really everything is going down and if I don't eat for a long time, it seems like I'm able to get a lot down (not nearly as much as before the surgery, but definitely more since the surgery). I only say sadly b/c of my lack of willpower, and wanting to eat everything I see. But, being able to eat more is nice b/c I'm able to get Protein and Fluid in with less issues.

How are you coming along?

PSA: the Syntrax nectar medical unflavored Protein powder is good. And I am super picky when it comes to Protein. One scoop is 10 grm Protein so I used 3 to get 30 grams.

banana cheesecake smoothie:

10 ice cubes

1/4 packet ff SF cheesecake Jello mix

1/2 cup ff milk (or almond milk or soy, whichever you prefer)

1/2 banana

Blend until smooth or until you get desired consistency.

For those worrying about protein, I will be 6 weeks out on wed and this is pretty much my first Protein shake after surgery. It won't kill you but you will guaranteed feel like crap without protein. So I am happy to have this unflavored to start mixing so I can start feeling better.

Also: while it IS unflavored, it DOES still have a taste. But it is mild.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Edit: spelling

My husband and I had our surgery 3/14...I too, sadly, seem to be able to eat anything...I have lost 25 lbs total but 10 was prior to surgery...I was hoping the weight would be falling off like it was with the pre-op diet but it's not...week 2-3 did not lose anything...a bit of a bummer but slow and steady wins the race, so I've been told. How have you been doing?

Lost 30 pounds first 2 weeks after surgery

Lost 7 pounds week 3

I see the slow down but as long as I loose something every week I am happy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
