March 2014 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on March 5th. My recovery has been pretty easy. No nausea and I didn't have gas pain, just a little discomfort while in the hospital. It's pretty much everything I was expecting it to be. Now at 3 weeks out I am having a hard time with head hunger. I tried to say before surgery that I would never get it. Ha! I am terrible about Protein. I'd rather sip Water. It's definitely caught up to me. I am very tired and run down all day. If anything, learn from my mistake and just sip the protein even if you don't like it. If it makes you nauseous try a different kind. It is SO important. My highest weight was 320 at the beginning of the year. I was 315 the day I met the surgeon, and a week later weighed 308 the day of surgery (after 1 week 1200 calorie diet). Today I weigh 282. Hoping this weight loss rate keeps up.

How tall are you?

I was 315 when I met surgeon and 299 day of surgery.

I hope your weight keeps coming off!

My surgery was on Tuesday March 11th. I was let out of the hospital on Thursday and as a dance mom I was at a dance competition on Saturday. My husband did drive me there and carry everything for me. But the Monday after my surgery my husband had to go back to work and I drove to pick up the kids and take them to their nightly activities. I have been fine, I do however get my kids to carry everything since I can't lift anything over 5 pounds but I am getting around just fine.

Hi i am new here. Had my surgery on 3/20. I'm having emotional issues (regret) and I am unable to get all my Protein in .. I have a pain in my collarbone when I swallow. I called the doc and was told it normal. I just want to know, "does it get better?!?"

Hi I was sleeved 3/24...day two was horrible but yesterday was better and today even better. Ive only had nausea once and am keeping fluids down well. I am quite gassy bit walking tends to help. I had about 1/3 cup of broth last night for dinner slowly and went down well. Was also able to get 16oz of Water and 35g Protein Shake down by the time I went to bed. Today I'm having no problem getting my Protein down. Was wondering did anyone eat puréed Soups the first week and if so what did you have?

@@jaxhdsn I did not have any Soups the first week, but I did start having Soup on day 8. A coworker of mine was nice of enough to make me some Tomato Soup. It goes down REALLY well and hits the spot. I am not sure if you have a La Madeleine near you, but you should try their french onion soup...it is divine AND a 1 cup serving is only 100 calories and 4 grams of fat.

@@jerseygrl09,

Good luck tomorrow! You'll do great!

Tomorrow will be the easy part...all you have to do go to sleep, and wake up to your new life. I remember "recovery" taking a few hours longer than planned, but not b/c of anything bad, they just make sure you are ready to leave, not sick, etc.

Then, it's on to rest and starting a new chapter.

You may be gassy, and feel a "weird, heavy pain" in middle of your chest. That is GAS. Burping is your friend! It will take days to get the gas out of your body. Then, just make sure you are SIPPING Water all the time. I was very DRY MOUTHED for the first two days, b/c I wasn't drinking enough.

And you'll want to have sugar free ice pops. They are a godsend. chicken broth and Water, ice pops, sugar free Jello, and Decaf tea will be your best friends.

Every doc is different as far as the food regimen, so not sure when you'll start "full liquids".

Just be sure to HYDRATE.

I wasn't really HUNGRY until day 5, and by then I had started Protein shakes and those help with hunger IMMENSELY.

Good luck to you, and let us all know how it goes!!!

Yes, it does get better. You will notice every day will be a little better. Your body just underwent a major surgery and is still recovering, not to mention the lack of calories. Give it time to adjust and you will be back to yourself in no time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
