March 2014 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

My surgery is March 31. Thank you all for being so honest. Believe it or not, it does make me feel better knowing that some of you are having a bit of a hard time. I'm really nervous about the surgery and reading about some of your problems helps me to prepare myself and to not be surprised when things are tough. If everyone talked about how easy it was and then I had some troubles, I'd feel like a total failure. I am prepared for pain and nausea and I am worried about getting in all the Protein and fluids. It never occurred to me to try a vegetable Protein in chicken broth. I'm going to add that to my shopping list. Thanks again for talking about your regrets.

I hope you all feel better soon.

I had my surgery on March 5th. My recovery has been pretty easy. No nausea and I didn't have gas pain, just a little discomfort while in the hospital. It's pretty much everything I was expecting it to be. Now at 3 weeks out I am having a hard time with head hunger. I tried to say before surgery that I would never get it. Ha!

I am terrible about Protein. I'd rather sip Water. It's definitely caught up to me. I am very tired and run down all day. If anything, learn from my mistake and just sip the Protein even if you don't like it. If it makes you nauseous try a different kind. It is SO important.

My highest weight was 320 at the beginning of the year. I was 315 the day I met the surgeon, and a week later weighed 308 the day of surgery (after 1 week 1200 calorie diet). Today I weigh 282. Hoping this weight loss rate keeps up.

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm going to make a list tonight of all the reasons I'm having the surgery so I can read it when I have buyer's remorse! Off the top of my head:

•I have not been able to lose and keep weight off for 10 years, but I've continued to gain

•I hate sleeping with a CPAP machine - the last thing my husband sees before he goes to bed and the first thing he sees when he wakes up is either me in the mask or me with a red ring on my face from wearing the nose piece all night

•I get winded bending over and climbing stairs

•I want relief for my varicose veins

•I want to prevent diabetes which runs in my family

•I do not ever want to not be able to go on a ride with my child due to my weight ever again

I agree with Kim. I decided when I made up my mind to spend the money and go forward with this, I was not going to allow myself regret. This is my tool and it will only work as well as I work it. The first couple of days were hard but the rest have only improved because I have worked hard at perfecting what I am meant to do. This is a steep learning curve for sure.

I have a list too and would love to see other peoples-

* Gid rid of the C-pap, no carrying it through airports and making sure I have international plugs!

* Be able to fit on all of my out door chairs, not just the one or two.

* Be able to put my own nail polish on.

* Be able to reach the back of my high Kitchen bench without a stool because my tummy is not in the way.

* Be able to wear my safety gear for skating and skate again. Even on weekends.

Good luck to every one.

I had my surgery march 8, and like all of you, i really worried that i made a mistake. But let me tell you that it does get better, but you have to follow the rules. Get your Protein in, at least 60grams per day. Watch those Protein Drinks, some are very high in calories. Get protein drinks that have at least 20-23 grams of protein in them, and sip on them throughout the day. I usually have three per day, but lately i have been needing less. And drink your Water. Track it. Make sure to get 48-60 oz at least per day. It won't be easy at first, but it will come along take photos of yourself, every 10-15lbs. You will see a difference gradually. Stick to it. We are all on this new journey together !!!

Had my sleeve on 3-3-14, I'm post op day 20 and last wk I was re-hospitalize for dehydration. I've had it rough. I sleep a lot therefore I'm not eating like I should. It's hard. I'm still at the point where I regret it, but hoping it gets better. I go back to wrk in 3 wks so I'm hoping I get the hang of this in the next wk or so. Down 26 lbs since surgery, but not enjoying the weight loss bc I'm always sick. Please keep me posted on you guys progress

I hear you. Had mine on the 19. Still feel sick

Hi everyone! I am 3 weeks post op and have tummy discomfort. I get a gas bubble EVERYTIME I drink or eat. Sf puddings go down the best! I love this app and hope everyone gets better and keep us posted! Xo yoli

I get the bubble too. People always ask why I sit up straight after swallowing something or kind of move around. It's because I'm trying to get rid of that feeling!

What are you eating? Are you getting all your Protein and fluids in? I noticed my weight loss slowed after I started pureeds. Scared about it stopping completely after starting soft food.

Kb88, I feel like I am always drinking Water.I have two Protein shakes a day. I have refried Beans (literally just a few small spoons and I am done). They approved me to have tuna if I mush it up then chew it a lot.I think I need to start walking more but just don't feel I have enough energy. I just got tickets to Disney on ice for this weekend to take my daughter and I have worry that I won't have the energy. But I am willing to try! I new I wasn't really going to be able to eat much, and I had lapband before so was used to restriction but I eat soooo little it worrys me.

Had my surgery March 12th. Lost over 22 pounds so far. I was pretty miserable the first two days post-op, but I started feeling better when I got off the pain killers, go figure.

sleep was a little difficult the first week, as I couldn't lay on my side, but that has taken care of itself. I get some stomach rumbling/discomfort with some foods, but I can tell it's gradually getting better.

I don't get hungry at all, but I can feel myself get a little weak if I go too long without eating.

I have my post-op with my doc on Friday. No regrets here.

Hi! I am 8 days post op! I no longer have the painful gas like i did the first few days, but I discovered that if i would sip AND walk at the same time, the gas bubble would come out my mouth much faster and easier. Hope that helps! Stay positive, the gas phase will pass (literally) in just a few more days.

Good Luck!

Good afternoon everyone. My name is Jeremiah. Had the sleeve gastrectomy on the 12th. I started my weight loss at the end of November at 491 pounds. I lost 73 pounds prior to surgery and about 20 since. I have been struggling a little with the pureed portion, but still getting in all my Protein and liquids. I am 32, married, with two kids, and am looking forward to the rest of my life.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
