Did anyone else not do a full 2 week preop diet?

Recommended Posts

Just how liquid is liquid for the pre-op diet? I tend to eat pretty clean anyway (portion control is my problem), so would a thin, puréed lentil and vegetable Soup (sans potatoes) be acceptable? I don't have a date yet, so I don't know whether or not the doctor will require to me do liquids, but it seems like regardless, people tend to do better when they have done, so I may want to do a week of liquids just to be safe as well.

I'm in the second week of my pre-op diet. For my doctor, liquid means 3 Protein shakes and non-calorie liquids. Water, diet Snapple, Crystal Light, etc. No Soups allowed. The first week I had 2 Protein Shakes, 1 lean meat meal with a vegatable, and calorie free liquids. I have to tell you, I am absolutely starving. :/

I got the call Wednesday that I was approved and another call Friday to schedule. My preop stuff is a week away and the surgery a couple days after. Wow this is happening quickly. They told me that it is okay to not do the full 2 weeks of the diet but just to start the next day. Anyone else do this?

What's ur date?

My date is march 31. I'm taking off next week and then the following week is spring break.

My date is also March 31. :)

My date isn't until April 23rd but my Doc only requires 3 days pre op liquid diet. Unfortunately for me that means I have to start on Easter! Blah!! My doc already gave me a mapped out diet in detail of what I can and can't eat 7 weeks after my surgery.

My surgeon is putting me on a 1 week liquid diet, optional to do 2 weeks for better outcome of shrinking liver. So I'm going to do 2 weeks.

As far as going back to work 2-3 weeks....Dr said at least 2 weeks to fully recover.

My pre-op diet will be 2 weeks. Can have non-starchy vegetables & diet jelly to mix it up. Although a friend said the vegetables made her hungrier than if she didnt have them.. Maybe just having something in your stomach? Im sure everyones different though. 2 weeks is going to kill me!! Haha. But all will be worth it in the end :-)

I met with the NUT yesterday and she told me that I would not be required to do a pre-op diet. I would have to do Clear liquids the day prior to surgery, but no two week pre-op diet.

I have to do a three week pre-op diet. Just started my second week. Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch. dinner consists of 6oz lean Protein and salad or non starchy vegetables. Apple, pear or orange twice a day as a snack and another Protein Shake if needed as a evening snack. I could have the meal for lunch but I chose to have it for dinner, that is when I am the hungriest.

Not to bad of a pre-op diet, I have lost 6 pounds the first week.

My doc requires a 2 week liquid diet prep. 1 week full liquid, 1 week clear liquid. My surgery was scheduled where I just had to do clears. The prep was the worst part for me.

My doctor has me doing an Atkins Induction phase diet for the two weeks preop. It's high Protein, low carb, no fruits or fruit juices. I'm almost done with my first week (surgery next week!!), and it hasn't been bad. I'm not much of a Breakfast eater, so I've been doing Protein Shakes for breakfast and then two high protein, low carb meals for lunch and dinner. I've lost 12 pounds in the past week doing this. Best of luck to all of you waiting for surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
