H-Pylori and surgery in Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Back in October when i was testing for my medical clearance for my insurance company, my lab work came back positive for the H-Pylori bacteria. My surgeon called and said that I could not have surgery until it was treated and until I produced a negative blood test. Well the prescription never got filled because my insurance co denied the surgery before i filled it.

SO…my question is, did anyone test positive for H-Pylori and have the surgery in Mexico? Did the dr in Mexico even ask about it?

Thx!

*Nic*

I had surgery in Mexico and I got my H. Pylori diagnosis AFTER surgery (thanks to the pathology report they gave me). It won't prevent you from surgery in Mexico but if you don't get it treated you will have to wait three months for the stomach to heal before treating it. Most adults have an H. Pylori infection (I think I have a particularly bad one but getting most of my stomach cut out got rid of 70% of the infected problem). :)

Did you have any complications that you think the bacteria may have contributed to?

And thank you for the reply.

I also was told by the dr.s in Mexico that I had H Pylori after the surgery from the pathology report and also was told I can't do anything until 3 months out. I'm almost 4 weeks out now. I have absolutely no symptoms I have never in my life (45 years) have had an ulcer or acid reflux or any kind of stomach problems. I was quite shocked to hear I had this bacteria. But I was assured it was common and quite easily treatable.

It is very common. So I found this article last night while trying to find more on this H-Pylori issue and I came across an article in the US National Library of Medicines website titled,

The impact of Helicobacter pylori on the complications of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

They conducted a study of 682 patients and the conclusion of the study is:"There appears to be no association between H. pylori infection and post-LSG complications." (Last sentence of the abstract)

Here is the link to the abstract: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24155112

(Disclosure: I am not saying that it is ok to have surgery with the bacteria present in your body, I am just presenting to folks on the board what I am finding in my research of this topic.)

I have Hpylori as well and the Prev Pac didn't work, i was on it one day and had an adverse reaction they said they will see what they can give me, I hope they find something i don't want this to delay my surgery...I just want it gone

A lot of people that have been diagnosed with H-Pylori have a hard time of getting rid of it and have to go through multiple tiered antibiotic treatments that sometimes don't work. I am going to do some more research and see what else I can find. And also talk to a dr.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
