Need information about meds post-op

Recommended Posts

I am concerned about whether I will be able to take all my meds after having the sleeve op. I take approximately 40 - 50 pills a day, and in the morning I need about 3/4 cup of yogurt to take the a.m. batch. My dietician has told me that post op, one can only "eat" about 1/4 cup at a time. Yet she and my surgeon are full of confidence about my ability to take all my pills. I'm worried that they are too optimistic, and would really like to hear from people who've had the surgery and need to take a lot of medication. How have you been able to manage it (or not)? Thank you to anyone who responds!

I can't imagine taking that many pills right after surgery. Your stomach is swollen and is the size of a drinking straw. You may need to take all day to get them in. I always hear that people are taken off medication immediately afterwards, though. One thing I wish I'd known before hand (though I'm not sure I would have proceeded) is that I couldn't take my anti-inflammtory pill for 3 mos. (I have a herniated disk). I'm doing ok without it so far and am close to 3 mos. now.

My husband and I are 67 and take many pills. Prior to surgery you will come off most medication for about a week, and also after surgery. After surgery I no longer had to take Metformin and we both came off 1 BP medicine each. We take many Vitamins, BP meds, and other meds. We take a liquid excellent Multivitamin, we have no problem swallowing pills. Some pills can be crushed with a pill crusher, some can be cut in half. Taking pills is not a problem.

You have to crush them and take them that way. Or get a liquid form. I take 7 pills a day only 2 came in liquid form. The other had to crush and put in apple juice. Beware it's gross. I actually just stopped for a week or two.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
