I had surgery 4 days ago and boy am i hurting!

Recommended Posts

Hello to all. Sorry for writing so late but this is the only time since the surgery that I've felt better. I too had the lap band for like three years and had it removed a month ago. Like many others, it didn't work for me. They went in for the lap band to remove it but there was a lot of scar tissue so I had to reschedule for the sleeve. I don't know about you guys but when I have anesthesia I can't recover quickly the anesthesia takes 2 to 3 days for it to get out of my body. After the removal of the band, I was having second thoughts of the sleeve. Nevertheless, I had the surgery this past Wednesday, Mar 19. When I woke up, I was the only one in recovery cause I wouldn't wake up. Finally, 6 hours later, I was moved to my room. I was so nauseous, dizzy, pain was excruciating . I was supposed to leave the next day but I wasn't urinating as much as they thought I should. I was on 2 IV's. My body was so swollen that I could not bend my knees! I had a foley attached for peeing plus I have a drain attached to a tube that's in a small hole in my stomach. I have to empty it every few hours. I was told when I go for my first OP visit, they'll remove it.

I'm still swollen but not as much as this afternoon. I'm taking a pain killer if I need it. It's a narcotic so it makes me dizzy. I'm prone to Vertigo. My doctor also said Protein Shakes and Water is the only thing I should take. I love the shakes.< /p>

I'm regretting the surgery a bit. I guess going through these discomforts, would make anyone regret.

Also my stomach is swollen and it makes me look pregnant plus I have brand-new cuts on my stomach.

Sorry you've had such a hard time so far. Each day will be a little easier than the last. Then soon all this discomfort will be a distant memory. Hang in there.

Hi! That sucks that you had a rough start. I too had a drain after my surgery, it was taken out a week later. 90% of my pain was from the drain. I was popping percocet' s for the pain. Once the drain was removed I felt a LOT better. Hopefully the same will happen to you. Good luck with your recovery.

Question, is it possible after the 4 days if surgery, that you gain weight?!?!

I weighed in 238lb pre op right beer surgery. I checked my weight at 1230 am and it 245lb!

What could it be and does anyone have a similar situation???

I had a rough time as well and thought it would never get better, but it has with time. I too retained some Fluid immediately after surgery. I think it's common because they tank you up with fluid during and post op... Your body should regulate soon. Good luck and keep us updated. Not much help, but wanted you to know someone else has been there---

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
