Trouble getting my protein in

Recommended Posts

I am still in full liquids, and I am really having trouble getting Protein in. All of the protein powders say to add 8-16 oz of Water or milk. I can barely take in 3 oz every 2 hours. Any tips on how to get it in?

Hi Amanda, congratulations on your surgery. I am day 5 out and I have found it takes me about 1 - 2 hours to get a 'meal' in so sip sip sip! I put my drink in a flask and just sip away at it; normally by mid morning I'll have managed to drink my breakfast! I use beneprotein powder in all of my smoothies too which is quite high in Protein but has no calories or fat whatsoever. Good luck; sip sip sip!

I'm located in Western Australia - I purchased it from a place called Surgical House which stocks all hospital items.

Beneprotein sounds great! I looked it up. 25 kcals and 6g Protein for only 7g (1.5tsbp) of powder!

No taste. One scoop contains 12% of daily intake (1 scoop is 1 and a half tablespoons). Last night I made a banana and cinnamon smoothie (from my weight loss for bariatrics bible!) and 1 cup contained 18.5 grams of Protein. I think Nestle is an American brand? So it should be available from the states.

I drink Premier Protein chocolate drinks. They can be purchased at Walmart and Sam's Club. I pay $16.?? For a 12 pack at Sam's. They are $7.82 for a 4-pack at Walmart.

I'm 7 weeks out. Just tried the Premier Protein choc fudge bar (30 g) from Walmart. It was good. Only $1.18 each bar.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
