I had my surgery May 20. I was in the hospital for seven days because I could not tolerate liquids. I stayed on IV fluids for the first six days and on the seventh day I was able to tolerate fluids on my own. I am on full liquids now, and tolerating them well. I still get sharp pains in my left side but was told it is gas. I find a heating pad helps get through those times. My belly gurgles a lot and I have soreness throughout my abdomen, but is progressively getting better as the days go by praise God! My starting weight was 304 pounds at the beginning of my two week preoperative liquid diet, and today I weigh 270 pounds! My first post operative follow up visit with my surgeon is June 6. I am ready for some sort of normalization back in my life. I get tired very easily, it doesn't measure up to what my brain wants to do. My daughter took me to Walmart this morning so I could walk around, I wasn't there for very long before I started to sweat and become very tired. Having lost the 34 pounds, I feel like I have more energy, but my body cannot keep up. I put a dress on today that I had out grown, and it fits perfectly! What a great feeling, and I know there is more to come! I am having an issue with wearing my bra. I had the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass done and the pouch sits right below my bra and it is irritating to me. Does anyone else have this issue?

My stomach growls a lot too. I feel hungry about 50% of the time. I hate it.

Yes! I try not to wear a bra unless I have to. Jeans bother me too, which is kind of weird since my incisions are all at my belly button or higher. I've inky left the house twice since the surgery, so most of the time I'm in stretchy shorts and a tank top.

In the beginning I had to split or crush my Vitamins but at about the 3rd month, I was able to swallow the large (horse pill) Calcium pills and everything became much easier after that.

Hi I am 28 days post surgery - I am almost on normal food textures now - my hunger has gone I just feel a normal mild hunger and feel satisfied with small do lids. I take chewable vitamins and Iron liquid and sanatogen Protein Powder mixed in a yoghurt. I eat a lot of crispbreads with cottage cheese that's delicious :-) As for dumping syndrome it takes many forms - I realised Sunday after being naughty and eating a cake (I was at a local tea and cake event) I got really bad wind pain then I could feel myself fading away - I managed to get home in time to literally go into a coma like sleep for a few hours - I'm guessing it's dumping syndrome im sure - and yes intense nausea accompanied it -mind you it's a great sleep lol I am walking about 4 miles everyday with the dog - I use an APP called walking mate to measure the goal of 10000 steps it shows how far you've walked in miles and calories burned and of course counts the steps I find it a fab motivator -but I'm quite tired most of the time - don't know why!

I'm ridiculously tired too. I went back to work today. In addition to the exhaustion I feel, the sharp stabbing pain on my left side caused me to leave early. My incision sites as well as abdomen have begun hurting. I called my nurse Practioner to ask for advice but she never called me back. My surgery was on the 21st. Right now all I feel is tired, gas pains and I feel like I look sick :-( it may be from my lack of Protein. Trying really hard to get as much in as I can.

Faye I too had my surgery on the 21st. I have quite a few stabbing pains on my left and right sides. My incision sites also hurt a little. I am fast asleep by 10pm every night, I have never slept so well. All of these pains and the tiredness etc are apparently all quite normal. My worst symptom is weakness. I started back at work on Friday and worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday from home. I was due back at the office yesterday but didn't go yesterday or today.

I'm 21 days post op. I lost 15 lbs the first 2 wks but have gained back 1.5 lbs the past wk. Is this normal? I went back to work and am getting more steps in a day around 7000. My calorie intake is around 475 & I'm getting my 60 grams of Protein a day. I don't understand why this is happening. What am I doing wrong? Just getting frustrated...

Yoga girl , I'm having the same issue lol I asked my doc and he said just relax.. Your body is freaking out and holding on to everything.. Could be a day could be a week but one day you will wake up and bam be down a bunch. I lost 20 in 7 days and have been stalled for 4 very frustrating! I even threw my scale this morning. I hate that damn thing. If it goes down I feel awesome if it stays the same or goes up it puts me in a terrible mood. I wish I could stay away from the f*cker!

Allielee,

Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who is struggling here. I think I need to stop weighing myself everyday too. ;)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
