Anyone having surgery in May

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm post op 4 days. Doing well with my liquids all though I feel very full all the time. Feel just a bit sore when I use my abdominal muscles for something. I ended up with 6 incisions. No nausea, only taking pain meds at night to help me sleep. Up to 20 min in walking about 3 times a day. Cooked a spaghetti meal today including biscuits for my family. Was a little hard but I did it and sat there sipping my broth. Feel a little down today but think I need to get out of the house for a while.

Keep it up mlsaenz, come here we will support you. Don't get down, be strong!

Hi my May buddies I have 24 more hours and it's surgery time, I'm so excited I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight I have been waiting for this for so long what is everyone else doing to stay busy any last minute suggestions ?

Good luck cupcake. I'll have my iPad to keep me busy till then. Keep my mind on my puzzles to think about it. I won't worry till they start moving me in.

Check in is at 8:30am tomorrow. Been trying to keep busy today, doing laundry and cleaning up for my return home on Tuesday. Have to pack by bag still, wash my tummy with the antiseptic cloth and get to bed. Hope I can sleep. I am nervous, anxious, and excited.

Excited, I get to start full liquids tomorrow. Gonna try the premiere Protein Shakes several have mentioned. Hope I like it. Feel a little tired after my Walks but think it's due to the little calories going in. Gonna see if the Protein will help. Good luck to everyone having surgery this week. Keep thinking positive thoughts and get out of bed ASAP and start walking.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
