I couldn't get anything in let alone keep down the 4 oz a hour required to leave the hospital. I was in pain, I needed help doing everything, the nurses constant checking and poking and probing was annoying the crap out of me. I couldn't sleep longer than a few hours and the thought of drinking anything made me sick including my pain meds. so i had a nervous breakdown in there and my doctors put me on promethezine and zofran. after an extra night in the hospital and tons of walking just to get out that tiny room and get some air i was doing better. i finally got down and kept down 6 oz an hour and went home. talk to your doctor about these medications. they may be able to help.

I had these same horrible regrets for about a month after as well. And on hard days I sometimes still do a year and 99 lbs later. But I wouldn't change a thing - best choice ever and the regret will pass I promise!! Stay positive

I couldn't tolerate the pain meds in the pump either. Once you have your swallow test, ask them for liquid oral meds. It will be so much better on the nausea. My surgery was 3/12 and I woke up saying the same thing, What did I do to myself. After being on liquid pain meds, I was good as new. I am doing really well now. Hang in there!

Nausea will pass. When anyone asks "how was it?" my response is always the same. 'First 2 weeks SUCKED, first 2 months were, eh.' A lot of trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. Now I'm 11 months out. Down 60 lbs. Went from a size 18-20 to an 8-10. Would do it ALL OVER AGAIN! It gets better, I promise :)

I had my sleeve done yesterday. The pain meds were making me nauseus. So I had to stop Taking them. I'm still fighting the nausea, but now with more pain. In general I feel awful. Now I'm regretting my decision and thinking I should have tried harder with my diet and excercise. Has anyone felt this way? Did it last long?

The first 48 hours suck! I'm day 5 post op and I feel really good. Keep pressing forward :-)

Get some liquid Zofran it is great for the nausea that the pain meds cause. I took those two together and it made a difference. I had to go to my PCP and get a script when I got home about 4 days out. That's how I made it through.

I am 3 weeks out and doing great, the first week was horrendeous and I did think several times what the hell have I done, I was in a lot of pain, then took an infection in largest of the wounds, I struggled with fluids and generally felt crap. Now I feel so much better and things have settled and I am looking forward to my new life.

For the first couple of days after surgery I had those same thoughts, "OMG, what have I done!?" Once I started feeling better and figuring things out, those thoughts went away. (The first time I thought that, I also told myself, "Well, it's irreversible, so what are you going to do?")

You're going to be fine - the first few days are the worst. You'll get thru this, it's not going to be easy. Try to stay hydrated - you won't want to get dehydrated, it's only going to make things worse. Walk, walk and walk some more. Even if it's just around the house - move your body, it will help in the healing process.

And most of all, be kind to yourself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
