Protien drink for breakfast

Recommended Posts

Can you have a healthy snack mid-morning? I have an egg for breakfast (about 6:30 am) and a high protein/lo carb yogurt for mid-morning snack.

Maybe yogurt hard boiled egg string cheese with crackers

My band drains slower than usual so I eat really slow.

Why do you have to drink your Protein?

My dr says most of his patients have a drink in the morning cause their band is tight

He wants me to try it for awhile my band drains slower than normal so when I go to eat lunch there is still food in there from breakfast.

Can't eat all of my lunch. :(

@@tw42 how long have you been banded?

I'm sure your doctor knows best but sounds like you could use a very small unfill. I see so many folks here with bands so tight they eventually evolve into a slip or dilated pouch or esophagus.

food should only stay in your pouch for one minute. If it's still there 4 hours later, that's a problem.

i'm also thinking you need a little unfill. you should be able to eat a meal and it should be through the stoma or band in 20 min's or so. if your stoma is swollen a unfill would help with that swelling. as far as a Protein drink in the morning as ordered by your doctor add protein to a smoothe . either a vegetable smoothie or fruit. it would be more filling. my doctor is okay with a smoothie in the morning as long as its a vegetable one with protein. I add stevia to help wth a bit of sweetness. or a banana. my band is tighter in the morning. even cold Water doesn't sit well with me. so hot tea or coffee. good luck I hope you can sort this out. perhaps a talk with the nutritionist could be of help

You are definitely too tight. In no way should you still have Breakfast sitting in your band at lunch time. Your band starts to empty as soon as you eat so if yours is taking that long to empty then you are too tight. Some people the band never gets rid of hunger so if you keep getting fills because you're hungry I would say you may be one of those people that the band does not help with hunger.

You can get saline removed from your band so it's not so tight. I have a sleeve myself. My friend had the band and had a hard time eating Protein or anything for that matter. She had to have the saline reduced because she was malnourished . Her and I work together as nurses. My surgery was April 14 I'm down 38 lbs :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
