@@lapnicky it's a common result of any gastrointestinal surgery -- I think because your gut flora is disrupted, you get a broad spectrum antibiotic via IV (the antibiotic encourages thrush) and your mouth and throat can have some microscopic tears etc. from the intubation, and all that together allows thrush to flourish.

Oh not fun! Am I out of the woods? I'm almost six weeks post op.

I was unlucky and didn't get thrush (yeast infection) in my mouth.... but in the most worst place for a woman. Luckily it wasn't itchy, but I had to do 2 rounds of the antibiotics for it to go away.

A yeast infection of whatever variety is really common after surgery, at least trays what I was told. You're given some pretty hard core antibiotics while In the hospital that can cause it.

Probably. I usually get a vag yeast infection with all antibiotics but never had thrush til now. I'm afraid to say anything and jinx it. Both kinds are miserable!

I didn't get thrush, but I did get a Candida skin infection. The beast got a little out of control because I had never had one and thought I was allergic to something...

Thrush is candida. Thrush is just the commonly known name for it.

It's one of the most common infections around. It happens often after long term antibiotic use as the good and bad bacteria are killed off. Taking a probiotic helps restore the good bacteria.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
