Hello,

I am four and a half months post op. I went from 275 to 233. This process is sooo painfully slow it seems like its been forever. I am doing everything right. It seems like I should have lost more by now. Is it like this for everyone?

They say 1-2 pounds a week is great. . You didn't gain it all in 4 months. Be patient. I have been around the same weight for 8-10 months. It's not the end if the world. Maybe exercise more. Are you losing inches? Sometimes they are more important than scale numbers.

Good luck

Yes it's this way but I wouldn't call it slow? The math for losing weight just doesn't support much more than 4-8 lbs a month for lapbanders.

Many if not most banders would love to lose 42 lbs in 4 1/2 months btw.

You should be estactic ! How long has it been since you lost that much weight in that amount if time? I know where your coming from though, mine has slowed down to a snails pace too, but it is still coming off and that is great as long as I don't gain I'm happy!

I agree. This amt wt is great. I lost 13 lbs preop diet, 14 1st month postop and average 3-5 lbs a month last 9 months. I'm not looking for fast results just permanent ones.

I guess I put it in my mind that I would be happy eith five pounds a month (60 for the year). I am surpassing that, but by accepting that it would not drop off quickly, I'm thankful for any weight loss..... Remember, it's a journey. Enjoy the trip!

It took me over 20 yrs to get the way I was before I had wls. I know that I can't undo the weight overnight. I am happy with my progress thus far. I have 40 pounds to go. When you think of it that way, it's not that slow.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
