Hello everyone

I need some bp regarding a penni. I was sleeved on 6/18/13 and so far I have lost a little over 100lbs. However, I've lost 145lbs since my first visit with my surgeon. My issue is I still have 140 lbs to go until goal. My penni is now getting in the way and affecting my everyday life. It sticks to my thighs, hurts underneath because skin is being pulled, still cannot lay on My back and so on so on. I have BcBS od CA and i was wondering if anyone has any experience with having this done prior to goal and if they will pay for it.

I'm. 3 days postop from panni surgery but I was under goal.

What your insurance pays for is individual. When it does pay, you must have medical documentation to prove you meet the requirements. My insurance made no mention of needing to be at goal. If the pannus is causing you the problems mentioned, start getting your doctor to prescribed creams and to take pictures.

The panni surgery will only remove excess skin but will make your life easier. Good luck

With the amount of weight you have lost and the expected amount to still lose, I'm sure the reasons for getting a penni would be unquestioned. However, everything I have read and heard suggests, it will probably not be considered until you are almost at your goal. You would certainly not be satisfied either if you had it done too soon, only to end up with lots more sagging skin and problems upon reaching your goal. Good luck. congratulation on your great success. Keep up the excellent effort.

Many of the super morbidly obese end up with multiple PS procedures. A pannus that is too huge can impede further progress.

Have you looked into compression garments until you stabilize?

I was unaware of this. What you say certainly makes sense, I didn't know insurance companies would consider it more than once. Thank you for this information.

I was thinking that I had to get to goal before it would be considered. However, that has changed. I am sitting here at work and I have this aching pain under my guy. Something def has to be done.

Similar to Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck involves muscle repair and / or tightening plus Excess skin removal and often some contouring of the abdomen area

A panniculectomy. ( panni) is the removal of excess skin that lies below belly button only

Congrats on your amazing success!

I think you should start documenting as has been mentioned AND consult with some local plastic surgeons. Most of them do consults for free... and I would look for someone who has a good history with massive weight loss patients. Realself.com is a good starting point to search for docs, see photos etc. I too have heard that it is sometimes done in stages since a very large panni is physically uncomfortable and can impede you from exercise. It is my understanding that it would be possible to "revise" and do a real Tummy Tuck or lower body lift once you get to goal if you want to - but those are questions for the surgeons. Again, consults are usually free and very educational...

Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
