A few things I would not done 6 months ago...

Recommended Posts

I have been relatively successful with rebuilding my health and body since my sleeve almost 6 months ago.Doc says I have lost 77% of my excess weight so far. I can't say I have a lot of confidence yet, but I am trying to work on it by stepping out of my comfort zone in some way every single day. I am a work in progress and here are few things I would not have done 6 months ago.

1) Say no to bad choices like carb-a-licious Snacks. I do not feel deprived, so this one has gotten much easier for me.Chips and fries have lost their power over me.

2) Exercising when I don't want to (I still don't love it!)

3) Last week I took my first "selfie" ever. In the past , I was always the one who took everyone elses picture, so I wouldn't have to be in the pic. I bet a lot of us did that.I recently realized how much I stayed hidden in the background.

4) I must confess that I bought a "fit and flare" dress last weekend because it was a size 10 and it fit properly. Shopping for new clothes still stresses me out quite a bit, because I am not sure what size I am, or what looks ok at my age.

5) After dropping 7 sizes (22 to 10) I finally found the courage to cancel my Lane Bryant credit card and unsubscribed their emails.

6) Shopped for new bras at Victoria's Secret for the first time. The "secret" is , they only go up to size 38, and they still don't fit me. Won't be going back anytime soon. Hated this one, but hey- I tried something new. They are not all going to be home runs.

7) Ignoring toxic acquaintances. Life is too short to waste on people who do not truly matter to me. Especially my co-worker who commented that I could have lost the same amount of weight at Jenny Craig and surgery was "ridiculous" and a "lazy" way to deal with my "issues". I give myself props for not tipping her out of her desk chair. The old me might have done that, or obsessed about doing it! Smile and nod, and walk away.

8) I traded in some of my sensible flats and loafers for some pretty mid-heel pumps. I can wear them all day with out my feet hurting or swelling.

9) skinny jeans. 'nuff said. Especially when paired with aforementioned pumps.

10) I have always loved my hubby. I love him a lot more often now if you catch my drift. Lots of extra energy these days. He is not complaining about this one for sure!

What new new found confidences have you experienced? I'd love to hear some from you

Fabulous NSV's! In addition to the things you mentioned I bought a ridiculous pair of shoes! You know the ones, platform sandal things. They are so much more comfortable than they look!

Seela, I am loving the fun shoes and clothes right now. No crocs or sensible sandals this summer for me! Good for you too;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
