Supposedly submitting today

Recommended Posts

Well, it's been a week since my first appointment with the surgeon (March 27th) and I've called a couple of times to see where they are in the submittal process. On Friday (March 30th) they said they didn't have my diet history done (which the nurse I befriended told me she'd do on Wednesday). I had taken every little thing they would need, it was totally organized, cross-referenced and color coded (No, I'm NOT kidding). So I anticipated this would go quickly, and was TOLD this would go quickly. Well this morning the person who answered the phone said they were still waiting on the dictation from the surgeon (the nurse had told me that he dictates the next day). I got a little teensy bit annoyed and asked why on earth does it take a week to dictate? And after a week, what are the chances the dictation will be fully accurate (he wasn't taking notes when he saw me, three hours and fifteen minutes late...). So the first person transferred me to the voice mail for the office manager. The office manager calls me back (Janet) and tells me that it was dictated the next day, but it takes a week for the trascriptionist to type it a inter-office mail it back to them. Pffffft!! Ridiculous. And Janet assured me that I was a rare case who came in with everything done, she said usually they have a few weeks to get their stuff taken care of. I was not pleased. So anyhoos, she said she's thinking it will be submitted today. My case manager, Lynn (I love her), from my insurance company also called and spoke with the insurance lady (Lynne) at the surgeon's office to ask about it and she was also told they will submit this afternoon. Woohoo!

Keep your fingers crossed!

Had a phone call a little bit ago from my Case Manager and she's received my stuff! We went over it and I gave her my newest weights from my MD appt last week and from my cardiac rehab on Monday. She said she might be able to get back to me today, but I told her to just tell me tomorrow.

Come on tomorrow!

DENIED!!!!!! I didn't lose the 5% required by my insurance company over the past year.

I had a heart problem (since been fixed) and went on a medication that made me totally sedentary. I didn't want to do a stinking thing! And I gained 27lbs on it.

My high was 371, my starting weight (the one they use) was 344. So in order to qualify I have to be 335. Granted I've lost weight (I'm now 347.6), but even with a letter from my doctor stating that the weight gain wasn't totally my fault, and even with my case manager pleading my case to the medical director for the Ins Co. I'm denied!

I can try again next month...

One positive thing, it only took a couple of hours...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
